…and the truth, and the life.
Chapeau sir!
0kms yesterday and 0 on the cards today
Not happening here either!
Absolutely grim outside today
Club had a 70km social ride on.
As you’ve seen, I painted the Basement.
Despite the mechanicals putting an end to mine on Christmas Eve, I’m not sure it would have progressed too well anyway.
Today’s ride was meant to be a 125 km route from SE London to Windsor Castle and back which I wouldnt have been overly happy about setting off in due to the heavy rain and Tuesday’s ride was to be up to Holme Moss which currently has a blanket of snow on it as I understand, so another 130k on that one with 2k climbing missed out on.
My Thursday ride London route when I’ve got my parts still looks good and looking at the weather, itll be in shorts!
Yeah, we called off our day trip over the M62 due to the snow today ![]()
Not a great day to be put on the bike.
Looking at my training plan from 2021 and this was the biggest volume and hours week all year
I’d not ridden over 100km since Outlaw.
Average weekly training was 3hrs 53mins from Outlaw to before Festive 500.
Just banged out an 18.5hr week with a century ride and couple of 100km.
As you do

You’re looking fresh-faced for someone about to turn 40; you need more stress in your life

Either that, or you’re down at TK Maxx raiding the fancy moisturisers like I do. Love a bit of Collagen/Retinol grid serum for a Fiver (ah sh*t this is a public thread).
I’ve never done any type of Festive Challenge, but in general life, if you can’t tick one of the following, do something else:
- get paid for it
- enjoy it
- get a qualification (that is useful)
- get a worthwhile training effect
- get a badge to sew on your (military) uniform
Haha, I did get a couple of scouts badges for it a few years ago when I did it for realz, outside in English winter
Although like poet, I think I got a worthwhile training bump from it in 2020, only for all races to be cancelled
Festive 500 got a name-check on Radio 2 this morning from Maxine Peake.
Apparently she completed it.
Outdoors as well
That’s ace

This has appeared on Strava, anyone having a bash?
I doubt I will but have signed up.
Started it last year. 30k in, my left crank arm snapped. Ordered a new one which arrived on the 30th.
Didn’t fancy doing 470k on NYE as I was going out that evening, so failed it.
Parents are down this year so unlikely I’ll complete it though we’re supposedly going to Australia for Christmas next year so I’ll stand a much better chance of doing it.
I’ve signed up. I think it’s less of a challenge now that they allow indoor rides to count, so it’s not such an issue if the weather turns bad.
Last year we were away for most of it with no bike, so I only got in 3 rides and there was no way I was going to get close to completing it. This year we’re in London for the whole time, so 500km in 8 days shouldn’t be a problem
I did it in 2020 with only one outdoor ride I think ![]()
My club is gonna do a group ride each day to support it too.
Think I’ll attempt it but not as much of a challenge in summer 9 weeks before an ironman.
Yeah, I’m a going to have a bash. Not sure how much time were spending away from home but should have a reasonable time of it having two weeks off for the festive period off
