because it’s easier to bullshit people..

Anyway, this is one of the big 4 if and when Joex gets to make his comparison…

Have no idea, will find out.

Is there an action on my part I’ve missed? What am I comparing, with the who and the what now?

And does COM stand for conservation of momentum? Component object model? Centre of mass? Chief of mission?

I aready have.

Hence my fatigue comment, not only session to session but last 5km of 20km for example.

yes

at a superficial or high level, what is more or less the same for you and any other runner?

I think this is the bit I didn’t respond to? Apologies.

So I’d say that in the toe off, I’ve got the same kind of curve from a heel to head, similar forward lean, looking ahead, ummm…probably breathing and timing the opposite arm to leg okay.

toe off

body position

forward lean

looking ahead

breathing

arm action

what else?

Front foot position

Foot landing

Front knee landing angle

Back knee angle/heel height

Shoulder rotation

Hand trajectory

Period not touching the ground

…I’d guess there’s some kind of angle of propulsion as well - the direction of the force your pushing from the back leg. As well as the size of that force.

Shoe type/material

Breath rate

And all the sort of standard things we talk about, like upthread; cadence, pace, stride length, ground contact, etc…

People talk about a braking effect if your foot lands too far ahead of your centre of gravity

There’s going to be some kind of elasticity to the bone, tendons and “stuff” too

Leg recovery

Knee lift/drive

Vertical oscillation

Knee fkexion

Hip extension

So this is not an exclusive list but makes a good start point. Other stuff like hip obliquity, knee valgus and excessive pronation can come later.

So. On your list - what are the things Mo does that you don’t?

The leg recovery is much tighter, knee more flexed and higher before extending out again.

Knee is further forward at toe off, unless I’m sprinting.

Arm angle stays below 90°.

My hips don’t rotate as much, looks quite tight by comparison.. same at the shoulders.

So, I’m getting the strong feeling that flexibility in the right places is going to be something to work on, and that could take a long time. And fatigue from the bike will be working against that. Hmm.

If that were true, I wouldn’t need help! Ha ha.

Yes, I knew I was, very difficult not to for me. I’m already deciding what kind of hip mobility exercises I’ll be doing and figuring if heavy barbell squats are going to help or hinder.

I think he’s pushing forward more somehow, where I’m pushing up more. Leading to lower VO for him. Being lighter will help him obvs, but changing that vector…it’s not like you consciously choose which way to push off, you’re just thinking ‘run’. Is it slightly more forward lean?

Sole of his recovering foot is practically facing the sky (I’m watching his 2012 gold), mine isn’t. When the knee is under him.

Do I detect a slightly greater rocking side to side orhers don’t have? I don’t have a back shot but don’t think my head moves much side to side

racing ahead…

Ha ha, where were we?

I think I’d listed where I think the differences with Mo are?

Yes. When you were asked to list the similarities
