School me on Zwift

It’s a small external box, think it has a HDMI output cable and either an ethernet in cable or maybe just a wireless connection.

You can install apps from their store on it.

A box that connects onto your tv and can run certain apps/allow you to cast from phone/iPad to tv.

See @jeffb beat me to it

Apple TV can only connect 3 Bluetooth devices and one of these is always the appletv controller.

That leaves two devices.

Usually this would be hrm and smart trainer (power/cadence/simulate gradient).

If you need extra devices/connections then you need to use companion app to connect them to zwift.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks. And another thick question, is there any ongoing subscription cost to using Apple TV? I wouldn’t want to watch TV on it, just Zwift. So could I just buy the box and be done?

No ongoing subscription if you don’t want it (Other than Zwift itself.)

Iplayer, c4 c5 and UKPlay still work for free.

No subs, I bought my Apple TV box in mid Nov and it came with 12mths free AppleTV+. This enables you to watch the stuff you’d normally have to pay for. (there are still things that cost extra).

You also don’t need the box itself to do this. My box lives in the garage for Zwift but I can watch AppleTV+ from any device that has the app. (my main tv dies).

I’ve watched everything I wanted on ATV+ so I’m cancelling the trial this week. If I don’t, it’s £4.99 p/m and that has zero value for me.

They left the TV content too late to join the market, the big boys like Disney and Amazon were well ahead.

You can rent films and programs as well I think.

Once you’ve watched Ted Lasso there is nothing else remaining on the Apple TV subscription for

I didn’t bother with that. I watched ‘Greyhound’ and ‘The Long Way Up’

I was initially a Lasso sceptic but couple of episodes and I was hooked

Mythic Quest is also worth watching.

Another vote for Apple TV here. Got an old tv, ATV box, Tacx neo and Decathlon blue tooth HRM.
ATV picks up home WIFI signal ….download Zwift on the ATV and away I go ….companion on iPad separately and it’s pretty good. I think I have had 1 or 2 issues in the past 12 months but with the amount of WIFI usage in the house I am not surprised.

Although sometimes I go back to my old wheel on turbo trainer in the garden with a watch for intervals,

Apple TV for years, got the 4K version for Zwift last year I think or maybe 2019

Rouvy is great too, I forgot to mention that my pre race simulation on the Barcelona course 90km for 2h44 was pretty much a bang on prediction for the real 180km in 5h29 :flushed:

Wasn’t aware that Rouvy was on ATV, good shout.

Brace yourself for the usability of the remote. Maybe set up the remote app on your phone asap.

Fantastic kit though.

I’m interested to gear how you get on.

I have a dumb trainer with Assioma pedals of power, speed sensor & hrm. With that set up I should be able to run Zwift if I use the companion app with my android phone, but when I tried it earlier in the year computer said “No”.

The remote isn’t great at all but I find as long as you don’t need to use it in a hurry mid game, it’s ok. You have to slow down the thumb swiping.

Oh and get a silicone cover for it because the bastard is a slippery as a greased up eel.

First impressions, really good :+1::+1::+1:

Set it up last night. Had to unlock a long forgotten Apple account and install Zwift, then pair pedals and HRM. That was pretty easy.

Had a play today. When you turn it on you get a screen like this:

Click Zwift, and instantly into the game:

This is amazing, on my laptop it used to take about 5 minutes, sometimes more, and the pairing was hit and miss.

Into the actual game, the frame rate much better that I’m used to. Really smooth and :ok_hand:

Unfortunately it hasn’t yet made me any better at cycling

But overall, so far seems like a big step forward compared to the old laptop👍

Also I’m becoming a bit of a neat freak in my old age and like the lack of clobber and wires around the telly. Might put up a little shelf above the TV so nothing on the work top at all
