School me on Zwift

Is that a brand new KICKR20? Seems strange to me. I think a couple of others have bought new KICKRs recently, so maybe they can comment? I’ve borrowed an old KICKR, and like you say, the same as my old turbo that broke, I had the same resistance level in the start pen as I do on the road.

Saying otherwise just can’t be right, given you need to be holding 350+ watts as the timer hits zero not to get dropped in the first 5 seconds!

Yes it’s the new Kickr, well 3 weeks old.

I can ramp the power up 5 seconds before the start gun, and totally fine when in the race or out on a course. In the pen if I ramp the power up, after around 15-20 seconds the power drops quickly and have to freewheel until I can power up again. It would be nice to do a few spin ups or 1-2 minutes laying down some power in the pen, 10 minutes before the gun goes off. Very bizarre.

£142? I would expect a discount for the lack of material used here.

This is strange. Are you also using a power meter? Bluetooth or ant+?
If you were spinning out I’d say you lost the ‘controllable’ (I’ve experienced that) eg power meter as main power source but no controllable for resistance (and gradient changes).
But you say once up and running as it were, you’re getting the watts. Very strange.

You warming the trainer up adequately beforehand I presume? Kickrs need a good 10min.

Yep. It’s weird and Zwift support reckon this is normal in the holding pens but I know it didn’t do this with my old trainer. I can work around it though. I’m doing a structured warm up on a ride and then join the event/pens, 5 minutes before the start. Once I’m in the pens I can spin up, but the power keeps dropping to below 50 watts. As soon as the event is underway all works as it should.

Tbh, the Tron bike novelty wears off rapidly. It’s not the fastest bike by any stretch these days.

Hmm tbh I dont really look to the top left (watts) when in holding pen. I do my warm-up, then go into pen ideally 10mins before the start. Rest for about 8mins, then start to spin and warm-up the trainer again for the gun. As long as when the gun goes your watts are where they should be then your avatar will shoot forward and you’re good. If that’s the case then maybe just try to ignore top left in the pen for now.
BTW have you done all updates on all devices?

I don’t use it anymore. Aeroroad has taken the decisions and faff away pre-race. I just use aeroroad and disk for everything, unless the race goes up the alpe or ven top.
Tron and aeroroad may be marginal but remember with the aeroroad your avatar will sit up in the draft so you know you are 100% in the draft. Nice little cue to have over the Tron.

I don’t know if i wrote this a while back or just thought about it in my head …

But will there not be a point when ‘everyone’ has the Tron bike? The way it is achieved i.e. through accumulated metres gained over an open ended period of time, means the longer the game runs, the more of it’s core population will achieve this benefit, thus negating the ‘specialness’ of the bike.

So do they reset it, create a new ‘super’ bike, keep adding more commercially available bikes that rank higher/faster than Tron or come up with some new sort of challenge?

They definitely need to introduce a new challenge for a new super bike or wheels. I’d say people who are level 32+ must have completed Everest/California/Italy

And the rewards for Italy/California are shite!

I’m basically just treading water until I can get the Venge S Works and disc/858. Currently L27

I’ve just bought one of the Elite Sterzo smart units… needed something to keep me keen on Zwift over the winter.

Loot boxes, where you buy the chance of getting better equipment.

I haven’t been on Zwift since May but looking at getting going again and it looks like they’ve stopped the 3 and 12mth gift cards?

I might jump on later today, depending on how fun work is :see_no_evil:

I can now wholeheartedly recommend using an Apple TV for Zwift. Instant on and zero connectivity issues.

Yep, 'twas a good day when I went that route. :+1:t2:

I’ve just decommissioned the turbo trainer, only allowing myself outdoor rides to force myself outside.

Sorry to be thick, is an apple TV an actual TV, or is it something you plug in to your TV?

I currently Zwift via an old laptop with HDMI to an actual TV but it’s not the most reliable
