Christ how many on this forum are within spitting distance of Ciren?!
I’d need a good tailwind to hit Ciren now.
Used to go through it on some of my long Ironman training rides. I think Ross-on-Wye and Burford were my ‘limits of exploitation’. Obviously anything in SW direction was too busy; bad enough in a car.
I see he has 2 kids, which surprises me; I wonder how much he sees of them given the nature of his career.
You just made me check his wiki page, in case he was married to the last girlfriend I recall (who I knew very well). He isn’t.
Wikipedia did however, tell me that his double leg break was in 1996.
It says near Llanberis, my recollection is it was in the slate quarries
Top quality tug buddy , that’s what Sean had today
.
I’m very impressed, two IM rides in 4 days in April
Jesus, you’re deep today.
Or is it shallow?
He’s an hour faster today, looks like you were holding him back
How very dare you , I was back tugging today
.
Aah, so you’re getting faster.
Are we now expecting a Doonhamer 103?

How very dare you
, I was back tugging today
Taking the bromance to the next level?
Made it out for a quick ride with Sean this morning. Had to go out early doors anyway as wife was leaving at 10 for a weekend in Manchester.
Enjoyed meeting him, he’s a nice guy. I was surprised how strong he was, I think the slightly odd clothes give the impression of someone less capable.
He recited a long list of niggles (“my knees are f*cked”) but was riding very smoothly.
One nice touch I’d not previously noticed is his number is the day he’s on, so 6 today.
There’s always someone who turns up for a group ride on a TT bike
Aren’t you guys supposed to give him the pull ?
Strong day for him yesterday, I feel like like I’ve been holding him back from his full potential …just call me Ian the Anchor.
Did you ask him about his nutrition? I think @Sowler was asking earlier. He’s got a chest freezer full of home cooked meals for the first fortnight or so which he takes liquidised, cold out of a shake bottle. It was venison casserole the other day .

We’d just done a right turn and I wanted a pic … I was on the front straight after, honest!
I obviously don’t have anything to compare with but - as I wrote above - I was surprised how strong Sean was. I think it helped a lot that the weather was lovely and there wasn’t any wind.
On the long, very gentle incline from Holt towards Cross Lanes I was having to work hard to keep up - the cold I’m getting over is still having a big impact on my top end effort but testament to Sean that he’s got the engine for this (he was very comfortable at 18/19 mph).
He was 20ish mins faster on the run yesterday but he said he’d been having bowel trouble on Friday which had cost him 20 mins - so probably has found his pace?
If he can be finishing by 7 / 7:30 every day it will make a big positive impact on his chances to finish
I should add that I never think of the riverside path as all that quick because there are so many gates - and they are awkwardly placed around bends and inclines. From my house the loop is c17 miles and, despite doing over 20mph for long sections, I rarely do the route in under an hour.
Some of that is working back through Chester centre but a lot is down to the 8 or 9 times you have to basically stop for the gates
Is that the one up the Dee from near Shotton?
They’re properly close together and massive!
My brother knows Kenton from his university days.
I met him in Chamonix. I tagged along with a few of my brother’s pals doing the Alpe D’huez triathlon years ago. They were organising a team to climb Broad Peak in ‘11 or ‘12… so one of them wanted to stop off and talk to Kenton en route to the airport - pick his brain about stuff
Most Alpha male I’ve ever met. He asked me, ‘so what does ….’s little brother do?’ and I just giggled like a girl

I think the slightly odd clothes give the impression of someone less capable
… I look like an audax rider who’s stepped out of a fancy dress shop
