Sport Science...a Tin Pot of recommendations to ignore

its lactate, lactic acid is lactate + a hydrogen and that is where the confusion originally stemmed from and this was discovered over 60 years ago, yet is still talked about! A good basic video (he also has a 25minute version (there are a few good ones on the you tubbies now!)

Lactate will be used eventually as fuel, no need to “clear” anything, warm down is for a mutlitude of reasons, I get frustrated when i hear coaches say “you need to warm down to clear out lactic/lactate” but whilst the facts are wrong, the message is generally right and coming from a good place. It doesn’t help that GCSE (and possibly A-Level) biology still talks about Lactic Acid being a bad byproduct of exercise. I had a minor disagreement with the teacher last year, apparently I’m talking about a different process  i just told el nino to replace lactic acid with lactate personally and just do what teacher says for now

Seiler? lol I guess Social Bio’s aren’t the priority of a leading physiologist

it certainly is…

Yes, it helps recovery…

the lactate is a fuel and quickly* gets shuttled and used…

but it is an accessible indicator of current/historic levels of exertion, from which other hydrogen ions which can cause damage result…

*how quickly depends on the individual and the level of exercise

He needs to get with the Program.

Listen to ^^ as hes far better educated in this than I, Im a very interested amateur.

Most of my stuff I get confirmation from a guy I did my HPCP with as hes a physiologist working at Bath Uni @Chriswim knows him through studies as well.

Another 4min video that explains in layman’s terms and quite well, he starts off saying what used to be thought so don’t get confused by his white board at the start

Listen to pointy head??? Charming

I am certainly no physiologist…it’s a world of complex diagrams and impossible formula…it is certainly no place for someone who still eats his crayons…

but they do taste good

its certainly helps prove the Dunning Kruger theory, the more I “Learn” the more i think fuck it this is way too complicated pass the crayons, and socials is full of “experts” confusing things further. Even text books still get things wrong! (I have mcardle, mcardle and katch that still mentions lactic acid in parts)

I think this is my future before turning to hiking and walking

Although Maffetone would say he’s been pushing it for decades!

it has merits but it also misses the point…

Adding to this, been listening to a Dr Andy Galpin pod today about the truth abut lactate, now it appears his background is biochemistry so I spent an hour confused as hell but worth a listen if you are interested.

if you want your body to develop efficiency through a movement or action, it is strongly advised to train that way…

Ignoring the physiological effects of running, the mental side of easy group running must also be a good thing, partly why parkrun has grown.

it is for those who do it, sure…
