That’s gonna be heavy for most folk no?
1 rep or…?
I think my max 5x5 was about 75% of my body weight, so maybe I could. I’m only doing 3x5 at say 60% at the moment.

31 for 40kg bench.
At the end of repeated 40 kg for 10 reps … 20 secs rest 5? Sets I think.
Bit by bit.
Yeah, I’m 105kg at the moment but hoping to drop a few and 100kg by Christmas would be ideal.
My current best is 90kg for 4 reps or 80kg for 10reps which the calculator says is equivalent to a 1RM of 100kg or 107kg respectively. (Still find it weird that the 80kg comes out higher and don’t think I could do 107kg in reality, but 100kg possibly)
I never do single reps, my routine is to get to 10/12 reps then add weight which usually drops me back to 4 or 6, then build back up to 10/12 before adding weight again.
If I get to the last session before Christmas and haven’t got to me weight I may well try a single at whatever it is at that time.
At risk of stating the obvious, surely that depends on how heavy you are combined with how much lifting you do. I weigh about the same now as I did when I was at uni, maybe 2kg heavier (70kg now). Back then I did a lot of lifting and would work with 117% of bodyweight (4x 8-10) and could 1RPM 160%. Now generally lifting x1 week I haven’t tried pressing my body weight but reckon I could, going to have to try now aren’t I? I do about what you do, 3x4 of 60%. Although, I never pay much attention to the comparison I just progress as I can. I was very lean back then, well until work and family got in the way.
I look back and think of some if the lifts I did and they really are mind boggling now.
Ok I was much younger and 2-3 stones heavier, even as a 15 stone weight lifter I have always been into reps … I distinctly remember lifting 40 kg in a “ comp” with the young prisoners, we set it at 40 kg as they could all lift that at least once!
Pretty sure I got 80 or so reps?
I’m not even at half that now but working towards it as strength is needed early next year!
Old age is shite sometimes.
It does which is why % body weight is often not a comparable target, and I know JaRok and others aren’t racing snakes.
My own BMI around 29, I often wonder if strength targets would be better as a percentage of non-obese body weight. For me that’s 20kg lighter than body weight. Looked at that ay, I can bench 5x5 my non-obese body weight…which probably indicates I’m
more than strong enough for a triathlete.
So it kinda depends what your strength goals are for.
I often think about the same, my bodyfat is 33.5% (according to my scales) at the moment and the same lean mass at 20% (so still not exactly skinny) would have me at 88kg, so not an inconsiderable difference.
It’s same when you look up how much protein (or other nutrient, supplement etc) you need. I don’t think you want me be nourishing the lard so should everything be based on lean mass?
My goal is not getting weaker currently. I really enjoy lifting but doing loads of it isn’t going to be as beneficial as doing more S/B/R for the amount of time i have available. There are spells, like most of us where training has to take a back seat due to family or work and strength work goes out the window first. TBH though I have never given much thought to what I lift in comparison to how heavy I am. I know where I am at, lift that and try to do more as I progress.
80kg 10 rep max back squat last night. Nothing impressive but I know I’m never gonna be lifting super heavy and hit 2x 4 105 and 1x 4 110kg deadlift which is a marked improvement for me. Think my previous 1RPM on deads was 115. Also found a new way to show up how awfully weak one side is, KB windmills.
40 kg bench one set … 33 reps
Up and up !
I’m not convinced I could make my arms go up and down that many times, never mind lifting weights!
I didn’t win that one!
One of the pei”s beat me?! IIRC.
I’ve benched 40 kg every day this week in some form or other, today was just one set! not optimal for improving max reps but a bit of fun and hopefully increased grunt for next year.
Does anyone have any recommendations for youtube channels that have follow along S&C workouts? I’m doing them on my lunch in work and have limited equipment.
I only have 45 mins. Do you think 45 mins of S&C or 15 min run followed by 30 min S&C?
I’d suggest little will be gained by running for 15 minutes so I’d just do S&C. Is this every lunch time? If so you could do S&C 3 times a week and run twice for example.
Yeah that’s what I thought, I just read someone say go for a quick jog first.Just doing it once a week and go running on other days
The question really is, what are you wanting to achieve?
GAAAIIINNNNZZZZZZ
You got it, I want to take it to 11 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xgx4k83zzc
@Sowler I do minimal strength work other than working on my allotment. I think I just need basic core workout exercises. Without any guidance I’ve been doing sit-ups, planks, squats, and various stretches. It’s all a bit random, so I thought following to a video might help! Today I used this one https://youtu.be/eiF8aY-MTqU
Let me try again.
If it’s mainly core, I did this one for a while.
Nb. When I say did, I flapped about on the floor like a stranded dolphin.
That’s ace thanks
