Strength training

I think when you can squat two triathletes 5x5 then you’re strong enough.

I didn’t want people getting the wrong impression; I killed a mouse last night and immediately felt bad  Our cat brought THREE in last night. The other two were set free unharmed as a result. This was after midnight

On Monday our Springer killed a pheasant and I had to dispose of that too, once I lured her away from it. Country living…

Heaven knows I’m no expert. But as strength training goes, this sounds pretty entry level TBH. Maybe aim for a guinea pig next?

I see
As you know I’m a life long veggie and closet animal rights supporter

I had a good friend in my job and our sport, once I found out he went grouse shooting and other “ country pass times” we still speak but I did consciously distance myself from him

I was never getting into a spat with TRT mark or mr 400 watts, IDGAF to be honest

But a local who trolled me over my food choices … I tried to find out we’re he lived … and I did… it took a very good friend of mine ( copper) to tell me what the fuck are you doing … “ leave it”

Social media can be a huge help, this site in paticular certainly has been in a very difficult year for me.

But there are some proper twats out there too

Despite just having made a comment about strength training on guinea pigs, for the avoidance of doubt I love animals too. Would struggle to kill a mouse even if it was the most humane thing to do. There’s a big fish market here - went in it once and instantly regretted it - really turned my stomach to see so many creatures dead and laid out on ice. Some of them were really pretty too, should have been swimming in the coral somewhere.

Shooting pheasants - makes no sense to me. Why would anyone do that? There’s lots of it round Dorset too. But on the other hand, maybe doing a tri makes no sense to some people. So generally I just mentally file it in “stuff I don’t understand”, and keep schtum :man_shrugging:

Same; I don’t believe in killing anything in the name of sport or recreation. Although many of these country types will try and justify it as land management. It’s quite popular around here though, and somewhat decisive.

I do eat meat; although I wouldn’t miss it hugely. Diary would be way harder to give up though.

On the pheasants and (I’m sure grouse too) they are bread specifically to be shot (rightly or wrongly). Usually in semi fenced in enclosures in small wooded areas. Wealthy folk pay quite ridiculous sums for ‘100 bird days’ etc. Its very big business. It certainly isn’t my cup of tea. I’m sure @Jorgan is probably referring to shooting foxes though re land management. Anyway this is very OT!

I think the do the shooting on one of my running routes, as well as breeding for Christmas etc

As you say, not something I agree with but for them it’s as normal as entering a triathlon :joy:

We are way off topic here and I’ve never “ gone ballistic “ on tri talk as your all virtual friends.

Anything that doesn’t effect anyTHING else is ok in my book.
Worship who you like
Shag who you like
Be into what you like
Take as many peds as you like ( not for racing !)
Lol
None of that effects me or anything else in this world.

I’m sweating writing this …but killing another living thing just because you like the taste is just not for me.
Millions now live normally and compete at high levels in sport without killing anything to live.

To say you need meat to function is just … bollix.
You like the taste, it’s that simple

  • I’m not criticising anyone for doing this, it’s your choice it’s just not my way I expect the same courtesy

I’d love to go vegan but as Jorgan says it’s MUCH more difficult than being a veggie.

Vegans are more likely to criticise veggies than meat eaters which I find quite strange.

I’m quite liberal compared to some in my views but if could slot a trophy hunter and get away with it I wouldn’t have a moments hesitation.

Shooting? That would make more sense. No, there is still a local Hunt.

I did 100 press ups earlier :slightly_smiling_face: More later.

Crush it.

On the off topic tangent: I just chucked a dead pheasant into the farmer’s hedge over the road. I didn’t shoot it… it was in the road outside my house and I didn’t want any dogs running into the road to lunch on it. Maybe we need a blood sports/ dead animals thread

One go?

Boom !

30 reps with 40 kg bench !

Bit by bit!

In an attempt to achieve my goal of benching my bodyweight by Christmas (and getting my sr5e in gear more generally) I’ve decided to give a course of creatine a go. Bought a tub of 60 servings but reading some contradictory advice re doing a loading phase or not.
Loading - 4 servings a day for first week, then 1 per day.
Non-Loading - 1 serving per day from start to finish.
Think I might compromise and take one every morning but for the first week take an extra one after training. Any thoughts or experience on this?

Also decided to tweak my routine a bit:
Currently doing Push/Pull/Legs, Tue/Wed/Thur then Upper Body/Lower Body, Sat/Sun but feel that’s sacrificing too much upper body for the sake of legs so going to keep weekdays the same but swap to Chest/Shoulders/Triceps, Saturday & Legs/Back/Biceps, Sunday and see how that goes.

Yeah no one has been able to agree on loading or not. To be honest, creatine is cheap, well researched, has minimal side effects, so trying a loading phase is unlikely to give any negative effects.

If you havent used it before it can cause you to retain more water into your muscles so dont be surprised to see your weight increase a bit.
