Strength training

I think they’re being swamped - 504 timeout errors all day. I got through but not got what I’m after on the barbell front.

I got a weird elresponse from Argos, I ordered some non fitness things but left all the strength stuff in despite it being not available. When it told me my non-fitness stuff would be delivered it said they would not charge me delivery on the power cage (in 9 days) or barbell (in 15 days).

I paid for neither, so I’m a little bit confused as to whether they are being processed or not.

Looks like they either had stock or got more and did an ad drive, they have been popping up as targeted ads on social media all day.

Managed to get my order through ok, but god knows when it will turn up. Still waiting on the barbell.

Okay found a place with kit available, but as I understand it 30mm diameter is not standard nor Olympic (1” or 2”) so I think I’ve got to keep looking.

Sorry I’ve turned this into Joes shopping thread a bit but finally I have some kit en route.

Men’s Health Power Rig arriving a week on Friday.

There’s some mixed messages on what it can do, but I’m reasonably confident it can handle my current needs.

There is a fatbar or a training bar available at AF I’ve got a query on. The fatbar can handle any load, but I get the impression it would be a bad idea to squat heavy with even if I can rack it in the above Rig. The training bar takes only 80lbs.

I’ve set myself a challenge to do one more press-up and sit up extension than the last day throughout the lock-down (continuously, not broken up).

I think my PB on press ups was around 40 but hadn’t done much upper body strength work the past 18 months so started on 20, and 10 for the sit up extensions. Realized 20 might have been a bit punchy but will see how far I get! Be interesting if the rate of adaptation can keep pace with the increase.

Just did 27 and 17 respectively and still managing.

The sit up extensions are basically like this, but without holding the knees at the top.

My mate did a challenge last year, though he did stretch the rules every now and again. Started with one press up on 1st Jan. 2 on the 2nd etc etc.

He was doing his multi hundred days in sets. Sometimes all in one session, sometimes broken across the day. Every now and again he’d take a day or two off, but then catch up on the missed ones. Crazy stuff!

Love that stuff…!

The 500 … is on this year

Along these lines, again in the shower, I’ve come up with a mini challenge for myself to try to keep motivation up.

I’m gonna do a pull up challenge, and I’ve set it out like this.

3 x sets of 4 reps on day 1
3 x sets of 5 reps on day 2
3 x 6
3 x 5
3 x 4

Rest day

5, 6, 7, 6, 5
6, 7, 8, 7, 6

etc etc

Good luck.

My Lats and shoulders really started aching yesterday from Saturdays 5x5. Not sure about repeating the effort.

Hurt myself last week doing pull-ups so that’s in the can!

Ordered 4x20kg trigrip plates from SportsDirect (boo hiss), we’ll see if they arrive…haven’t even had a confirmation email from them.

The hunt for a 6ft olympic barbell goes on…

My plates arrived but no barbell. Delivery company says the consignment was split at the depot. Fuck knows why or when I’ll get it.

I saw a lad coming out of work with one this week…!?

Being “ thrown out” allegedly !!!

Ffs

Are the plates at least tri grip and usable?

Blimey, that’ll be on eBay sold and collected by now

They are try grip yes. So that’s something.

Nope
He competes …!

MONSTER… handy guy in a fight…

Some racks are available now at:

I reckon prices have edged up a bit, but not sure.

Got an email from Mirafit saying they had bars in stock, but that was BS.

My bar arrived. Need to put my power rack together and get all set up. Weekend job.

Bit bigger than I expected. Need to clear up the end of the garage and move a shelf unit. Think a 6ft bar would have been a better choice. Bit tight with the 7ft one, but moving the shelf will help.

Also need to fit the concrete anchors.

Sweet!

My less impressive cage arrived today, will look to build it tomorrow. No sign of a barbell. Two places emailed me to say they have them in stock…but you can’t get em cos they aren’t taking orders
