It was a good video. Actually quite intriguing to see how other people approach pre-race prep. Can’t imagine that many gels for example! A lot of it also brought back good memories from pre-race and race day morning last year.

How did you come to be featured out of interest? And did you find the camera an intrusion in the build up, or was it a nice distraction from the normal pre-race anxiety?

not my idea mate, but my friend Dan Noz has a youtube presence with lots of vlogs. Initially his vlogs were about travel, then when we met in 2014 and i wormed the idea of ironman into his head, the flavour changed. he documented his own journey along the way to Ironman Hamburg and has since been truly sucked in. Take a look at some of his stuff. He’s quite quirky with absolutely zero ego or any hint of Alpha, so we get on really well  I just invited him to come to Copenhagen for the kicks, so he bagged a media pass from Ironman (very easy to do) and documented this. He’s quite keen to expand the “age Grouper” profile vlog, so if any of you are interested then drop him a line. Definitely not instrusive, very easy. There maybe another film/doc coming in the pipeline but all hushed at the moment.

I watched it and enjoyed it. I like that headband. Looks really lightweight.

Ah, cool. Interesting. I saw the invite to contact him at the bottom of your video and just presumed he’d been doing it a while. The race footage was interesting just to get a different angle, but the behind the scenes stuff with you were really a pretty unique thing to anything I’ve seen out there, at least in regards AG racing.

Probably helps that you appear to have a very confident and comfortable presence in front of the camera

Production values were top notch.

Thoughts:

  1. Love the Derby t-shirt. Reminds me of Bank Holiday weekends drinking on Sadlergate. DERBADOS :desert_island::parasol_on_ground: Even has the Derbyshire flag on the back
  2. You’re in M50? Looking young there.
  3. Who was wearing a tow float in the swim? Surely that’s banned?
  4. The pros look really slow in transition, but that’s just measured and calm. It’s Probably really quick because they’ve rehearsed that calm, cool and collected approach.
  5. How many people were tying their shoelaces???

Really enjoyed that one

Cheers all, I think my mates really happy with all the positive vlog comments. I guess you throw it out and assume a load of critical stuff, but all well received. I hope he gets chance to build some kind of AGer platform.

Derbados! Well spotted. Deffo 50 in November, if you were to see me get out of bed in the morning (not that you would, that might be odd) you may change your opinion. :man_facepalming:
Hadn’t spotted the tow float, but should deffo be banned.

Great video. Really inspiring stuff!! :+1:

Liked that great watch well done Dave …coming out on race morning to find it lashing down !

from memory the floats can be used by the visually impaired/tied together swimmers

I think in some Swim-Run events, solo competitors have to use tow floats too. Although, who wants to be tethered to a partner who has a heart attack in the swim.

Given Poet’s recent stalking of you, don’t be so sure!

There has been no stalking!
I recalled the chap had done the same races for a number of years in a row, which served as a nice test subject for something I was building as a pet project.

He doth protest too much!
