Sub-20 5km Thread

Yeah, I worded that badly, I meant in comparison to people of your age and not the 5 year category.

My brain is totally AWOL today

Haha, I know the 60 year old lady with a 97% grading, but tbf she did run under 21 minutes I think.

Total outlier and I think some men would avoid racing her :joy:

I don’t think I’ve ever topped 72% at Parkrun

Cool, you were racing against Tim Grose, the guy responsible for PowerOf10, I love that site. I watch his YouTube videos, do you know if he recorded that race? Saying that, his track race footage seems to involve resting the camera on the ground, so isn’t the best :grinning:

Ha yeah Tim’s a legend round these parts. He did indeed record the race.

Was pleased as well as featuring in the race itself, I also make a cheeky appearance in the 4x400 during his debrief: https://youtu.be/kc3MfqOKhvQ?t=653

I’d never heard about the head to head feature in Runbritain Rankings - he covers that in the video. Interesting feature.

I’ve managed to get an entry to a local 5k tonight, an actual 5k with measured course which was where I set my PB in 2019!

Ain’t getting near that but if the DOMS eases from Sunday I’ll try for sub 20 :grimacing:

But it is right on the North Sea coast with a northerly so not sure how tough it will be, forecast is suggesting it might ease.

Didn’t realise he was responsible for powerof10. Have also watched a number of his videos.

He was also randomly in my heat for one of my few attempts at a track event. It was right before my achilles decided it no longer liked running fast, when I was chasing a sub17. I did a 17:04 road race the week before and thought a track race with dragonfly spikes might be the answer. I blew up :joy::person_facepalming: Didn’t even end up being a 5000m pb (even though it says it was - for some reason another event I did never got ratified on rbr/pof10)!

Well, job done but it wasn’t pleasant

The wind had eased quite a bit and was mostly a cross wind but freezing cold straight off the North Sea which was pretty rough. Did my usual poet inspired first 1K, knew it was a bit sharp and was trying to slow down but got some time in the bank with a 3:47. Then managed to settle into 4:01 which was tough but manageable.

On the second lap there was a bit less shelter from other runners and I knew I was slowing but knew I had just over 4 minutes for the last K, got to about 300M to go and just tried to push as hard as I could manage and sneaked over in something like 19:53. Then sat on the floor hoping I’d live :joy:

Still a bit off where I was last year around this time but after a long injury, very little running focus and a hard fell race on Saturday I’m fairly pleased with it.

Just need to avoid being a doyle now and not risk injuring anything again.
