Sub-3 Marathon Thread

I’d agree with all of that buddy. There’s an objective to today and it’s not to run the fastest mara possible.

I’ll get on that tracker.

So he’s gone a tad quicker to start then. Just over 40 min 10k. Running about 4.05s or so (can’t be bothered to do the actual maths).

@fruit_thief it’s vile here! Windy and chucking it down.

Weather has really blown in now :cloud_with_rain:

I think we’re due to get this later this afternoon :cloud_with_rain:

Wondering how accurate the marker is, fallen back if that’s the case? 7 miles in 40 minutes will be a big ask.

If it’s nearer to 6 that would be more in keeping with his pace.

Hopefully a bit of pendulum will be kicking to see him over the line.

Still not showing. Hopefully all is well and it’s just a tech issue

Tracker has gone crazy, or something clearly has happened. Hope all is well @funkster

Short story

Legs just detonated at the 12 mile mark with a short sharp hill. The course has loads of ups and downs under roads etc. Loads of 90 turns. Uneven surface on the park paths.

Average pace went from 6:42 to 6:52 from 13-15 and I was going backwards.

By 16 I was by the side of the track crying

I’m broken emotionally and mentally.

I feel like such a fraud and a failure.

Won’t be going to Frankfurt as there’s no point.

Gonna step back from here for a while.

Thanks to all for the support.

Sorry to hear that man. Gather your thoughts and take a few days to reflect before making any decisions though. Things will seem much clearer in a couple of days to allow you to assess what happened.

Definitely not a fraud dude.

Chin up.

As GB says, we’ve all been there and totally gutted when it hasn’t gone to plan, it’s the nature of the beast.

Don’t write off Frankfurt just yet, a couple of days to recharge your mental batteries and think about it again.

Head up

Sorry it didn’t go to plan, I’m sure you’ll feel differently after a few days when the emotions have settled down.

You set out to achieve a (arbitrary) time target, it didn’t happen this time, but all the work is not lost. It took guts and determination to toe the line with your self imposed pressure to achieve…please don’t talk of being a fraud or any other nonsense!

On the plus side running/shuffling in an Ironman is practically a different sport!!

Ah well, your training has been great but for whatever reason today wasn’t the day. Maybe yesterday or tomorrow would have been a different story.

I know you’ll be disappointed BUT - when you look at the big picture - your training to get you to this point has made you fitter than 99.9x% of men of a similar age - as fit as a butchers dog and the evidence is there on Zwift and Strava. That’s the important thing. Races are just stuff we do, they might feel like the icing but they are not really the cake. Anyone can have a day that doesn’t unfold quite how they want. But all those other days when you got up a 6am in the winter to run or whatever, they are what count, and are why next time there’s every chance you’ll get the result you want.

Definitely not a fraud or a failure. Was Paula Radcliffe those things when she had to drop out of the Athens Olympic marathon? No she was one of the best runners of all time.

Rest up you deserve it- reckon you’ll be smashing it soon enough :+1:

Echo all the above comments.

Take your time to recover, rest and reset.

So today wasn’t your day. You still had the guts to have a go. Also don’t accept the fraud/failure comment. You’ll learn from it and come through stronger

Ah man :broken_heart::cry:

It’s great seeing your progress and determination.

I’m not really inspired by sports stars or huge challenges etc.

People like you (and Toyota Crown) are the ones who inspire me :see_no_evil:
You get up and get the training done, day in, day out.

Go to the movies, have a massive pizza and a nice bath, take a few days off and come back here and tell us about the film on the “Watcha Watchin” thread

Sending Big love for you :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: :hugs:
