Sub-3 Marathon Thread

Is Runalyze taking the crowd/Tailwind into account?

I believe it closes on the 3rd

No, when it was guaranteed entry it was 3:05 as Jim says. I got in twice with my first marathon 3:04.

They then cut 5mins off, and made it BQ style, where the stated time limit was only a right to apply rather than a guarantee to race.

What’s this sorcery? You upload all you run workouts and it gives you predictions? Better than Garmins?

debateable! haha

They reckon they’ve got some algorithm (of the night, ohh night, oohhh yeah) that … hang on, this is what they say:

The marathon shape is an invention of Runalyze to optimize prognoses for long distances, that are based on the effective VO2max. These prognoses normally can’t consider whether the athlete has the optimal fitness or endurance for a marathon. The marathon shape is the solution for this problem, as the prognoses are continually adjusted for missing fitness.

The points for your long runs are weighted by time and quadratic in distance. That means, a long jog yesterday gives more points than a long jog two weeks ago and a 30k-jog gives more points than two 20k-jogs.

But yeah. Bulk upload. Another site showing all your stats ‘n’ stuff.

It’s nice to see the “marathon shape” number going up. However slowly.

Ahh so how does this work then for someone running Manchester this year, apply for VLM 2023?

I guess so. Seems harsh doesn’t it

Runalyze looks interesting but has some pretty funky numbers in some places - I assume as a result of some erroneous HR readings. For October last year it gives me a VO2 max of 95! I wish.

What’s the predicted marathon time off that?

Ah thanks. I remember thinking If I targeted one, I might as well target the second goal 5 minutes quicker. Thought it was sub 3 or bit quicker for VLM, but clearly other way round :+1:

Don’t know how to get to the historical marathon predictor - and it seems to have dropped to 73 now (I found the setting for maxHR earlier so I guess this has altered things)

Intervals last night & today dragged my battered frame out for a Z1 run. Felt and ran like Edgar from Men in Black, shortly after the aliens stole his skin.

On the plus side, Runalyze now says 30% marathon fitness, up from 14% 3 weeks ago when I knuckled down.

Maybe a target of 50% in 7 weeks time is realistic after all…

What’s everyones go to sock?

I wore some injinji lightweight last time and they were decent. However, I’ve lost one of them…

Marathon is a week on Sunday. Runalyze has me at 64% marathon shape, but estimated vo2 is low at 50. I tried changing the correction factor but it doesn’t update the Marathon Shape graph. It predicts I’ll get 3:08 :face_with_raised_eyebrow: I’m targetting sub 2:55 so we’ll see who’s closer!

For short, up to marathon I use the Hilly Single skin marathon ankle sock. For generaly up to 15km, the More Mile socks. and for ultra the Hilly Mono Ultra.

Correct

But get the mid weight ones. Tad more cushioning.

Other socks are inferior.

Facts.
