Sub-3 Marathon Thread

I’d like to try the Stance socks but I can never find them.

In white obvs. However any good for a marathon…ask me on Monday. Done a a few halfs and 10ks in them and like them.

I didn’t get on with them :see_no_evil:
Too “polyester-ey”

I like the compressport socks. The little protruding discs look like they’d be uncomfortable, but actually really help

Woolie Boolie’s, quite thick though.

I’ve got a slightly bruised toe which is right at the end of my big toe and slightly underneath. Its not going to affect my running however it is mildly annoying. Whats the general consensus on popping a few ibuprofen before running a marathon, I’ve done it plenty before football games and never had any ill effects, I wouldn’t normally give it a second thought.

I’ve seen various articles saying don’t, ibuprofen is tough on the stomach anyway without the stress of running for nearly 3 hours.

Having said that I know plenty of people do.

I’ve never taken painkillers during a race or before to get me through. Although a couple today and tomorrow might ease it before then?

What about something like voltarol gel?

Note, I am not a medical professional, just kind if assume a localised topical treatment wouldn’t have the same possible stomach effects mentioned above.

Toe now seems fine running so I’m gonna swerve risking taking anything. Thanks for the advice though everyone.

As Jeff says, the advice is never take ibuprofen or other NSAIDs (kidney function damage is the frequently talked about complication that can arise). So something like paracetamol is apparently better

Well, as I’ve had one relatively ok ParkRun, it’s obvious that I should enter a spring marathon. :man_facepalming:t2:

Entered The Brighton Marathon this evening. Just really fancy trying to get to the start line un-injured and if training goes well, a 3:15 GFA time would be grand, so I might hang around this thread and see what I can pick up.

Well I think I had originally entered for April 2020. Cancellations and deferrals!!

I’ll shoot for a sub 3. Might do some long runs this time. 😵‍💫

Will be my 10th marathon

I had a look at a couple of clips. Looks hilly, not sure it’s the place for my sub 3.30 attempt?

There’s a small lump near the start and another drag as you head east out of Brighton but that’s also fairly early on. Nothing of note I can remover certainly after half way

Less hilly than Goodwood x 11?

More i’d say.

not much in it though, was there a very shallow hill towards the end of the Goodwood lap?

It’s relatively local so that swung it. Getting to the start line is the main goal at the moment. It’s been a while.

Yeah, hill at the end. IIRC, I had 130 mtrs for Goodwood
