Sub-4 Marathon

Podcasts for me on most runs but definitively on long runs. Boring as fuck, unless trail I suppose.

I picked up some specialist nipple protectors from the London mara expo a number of years back. They’re really good, altho look a little stupid when you take your top off!

Do they do a version with tassels?

That’s a good point - I’ll try to remember the vaseline myself.

…

Now I’m thinking ā€œHe’s meeting a guy off the internet and taking vaseline with himā€ :man_facepalming:t2:

I’m hoping I’m not the only one there from PWR, should be a few of us in black and white. I don’t know their pace targets yet though.

I’d expect nothing less from the Brighton marathon!*

  • I was born in Brighton I’m allowed to make that joke, I think?

How to taper this week?

I’m still training for IM Barcelona so not sure how much to cut back.

Long brick 4h30+1h15 yesterday

Solid swim hour so far today, got a 90 min vo2max bike and a 40min interval run in plan.

Tomorrow 1hr swim 2hr tempo bike 1hr brick
run

Wed rest

Thu 90min endurance bike, 90min easy run, 1hr club swim

Fri 5hr endurance bike (down to Brighton to collect my race pack) probably won’t take that long

Sat 1hr endurance swim

Sun Marathon

I suppose the fresher I am for the marathon the better I will recover

Yeah, a 22 hour week pre-marathon. That sounds like the perfect taper…

I depends what kind of result you want but I can’t imagine I’d be done more than an easy swim, an 8km with a couple of efforts and and easy 6km. Possibly a light swim to loosen up.

So a bit like IM taper week, but no bike at all?

Well TBH, if I was looking to do well at a marathon, the bike would barely figure in my thinking in the previous 4-6wks at all.

It purely depends on the outcome you’re after. If you want to run the marathon ā€˜despite’ the IM training, then you can do that of course but where you are now, if it were me, I wouldn’t touch the bike this week and I’d barely be running.

There is literally nothing, fitness wise that is going to happen between now and Sunday that will help your result by going deep, only harm your result. Just do stuff that keeps your body loose and turning over. Worry about the IM after Sunday

Yeah, I guess so. :+1: Obvious now you say it

Don’t know why I didn’t think of it earlier, I’ve just been ramping up after cooling down around London Tri, enjoying getting the hours in.

Ive got fences and walls to paint anyway.

Did some nice topiary work today

No…but yeah, I will.

I’d say an hour or two of spinning your legs over on the turbo wouldn’t do too much harm.

Keeps you ticking over without any real load

Oh god I feel awful  I’ve never felt this bad tapering, started sneezing yesterday, now a minor blocked nose. Was going to swim at 7…
