Sub-4 Marathon

I think the official splits are confusing because they give the time taken since the the previous mat. The mats are generally every 5km, but then you have one after the first mile so the next split is for about 3.4km, then after 15km the next one is halfway so about 6.1km and I guess the 25km is only 3.9km after that…

I thought that, but really?

1 MILE

1 MILE Time 08:34.73
1 MILE Pace 21:23/M

5K

2.1 mi
5K Time 18:37.47
5K Pace 8:52/M

10K

3.1 mi
10K Time 28:00.30
10K Pace 9:02/M

So the 5k time is actually the 5k plus the 1 mile? And the 10k is the 10k plus 5k plus 1 mile? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: These guys!!

So 59:10 for 10km that’s okay on the flat but with the gradient I reckon the GAP would be too fast for a 4h

Edit: I’m still dehydrated

That’s 55:11 for 10km (27:11 plus 28)…definitely too hot.

Unlucky. Never again until next time!
Did you use race Pro on your garmin?

I checked it out before the race, but I didn’t use it, I just followed the pacers until mile 11. Maybe I wont do that again

Back in this for next year (April) and gunning for a sub 3:30!

Have been building a decent base and will start a specific plan at the turn of the year.

The start line is only a few miles from me so will train on the course a lot.

Nice. I have a marathon in Dec but training has been sporadic at best, so that will be a nice day out.

Brighton in April will be my sub 3.30 attempt.

You weren’t far off a sub 3:30 last time out IIRC?

Which one are you doing in December?

I was 3.38 at Goodwood in Dec but I’ve lost a lot of speed since then. It’s Goodwood again in Dec.

Good luck lads, as posted before I won’t be looking at mara for a while. My 2022 target is a 1h40 half mara. I should be near a 1h45 currently, or was pre October anyway.

Anyone else in for this in 2022?

I am down for an end of April one.

My plan was to target sub 3.30 on April 10 at Brighton but might just aim for sun 3.38 (Goodwood 13mths ago) and that might be a stretch. Get to the line, injury free is the first goal.

Good luck everyone, I can’t face it again until I sort my running out. If I can crack or get close to 1h40 for the half this year, then maybe next year a mara attempt.

I’m definitely passing on a spring mara and probably going to skip autumn one too.

Think I am going to target that time but like you say gotta get to the line injury free first!

Got a half on pretty much the same course in Feb which will be a good measure on progress.

What is the energy drink that people rave about? I think @gingerbongo uses it.
