Sub 75 never was realistic… however, sub 80 is far more achievable, I have gone under 83 (while running Zurich Marathon) so sub 80 should be possible
I have my attempt pencilled in for October 23rd. I have a 1:19:58 to my name I am much fitter and hopefully do it without a hangover this time.
No SA has 3 main wine regions - McLaren Vale (closest; just south of Adelaide past Moana), Barossa, and Clare Valley even further North.
I have never run sub 16 or sub 34, (or anywhere close) but I have run 3x 1:16:n and 1 sub 74. The sub 74 was when everything aligned, but the others were just being able to hold near 5k pace for well 21k…
I would have thought triathletes would more have the endurance over a pure runner, so maybe sub 16/34 is not as much of a requirement.
But basically good luck, I am happy I can take to my grave I went sub 75 and will likely never do it again
I never realised that. I know Adelaide somewhat but apart from a couple of trips to Murray Bridge area for training, I’ve never been outside of it.
Yeah, but you’re a freak Keith!
I’ve signed up for a HM in a couple of weeks. I did the event in 2016 and it was my first HM distance. Looking back at my training for that, the longest run I’d done in the build up was a 15k run in the week building up to it Other than that I was running twice a week - total of about 15k per week. I ran it in 1:31 so pretty decent on the back of that relaxed training regime! Target for this time is 1:21 or below
81 minutes? You are dead to this thread
Just kidding obv
Good luck - what’s your strategy? Is that about 3m50-3m55 per km? I sprinkled a couple of those into my otherwise ploddy run today & the old lungs were not entirely happy about it. Hoping to be able to string 16 of them together in 10 weeks time, but it seems a big ask from how I feel right now.
(I am also dead to this thread obviously - although in fairness “and beyond” introduces a degree of ambiguity…)
I ran my 1:20:41 off nothing longer than 8km.
And 5 x 6km easy plods around London in the fortnight before
I was riding about 300km per week and doing 18min parkruns though.
My speedwork was 30 minutes of 200-800 fartlek things on the local park
Yeah, I’m going to add a few HM pace efforts in some easy runs. It’s a week on Sunday so I’m winging it really. I’ve suddenly got a new target of 1:20:40 which is 3:50 /km.
A year ago I ran 1:22 on a hilly course with GAP of 3:50. Looking online sub 1:20 is 3:48s so I’ll probably head out at that pace and try to hold on
I headed off at 5km pace and held on, as the first 5km were downhill.
Luckily, an old XC “nemesis” from Derby was alongside me, which helped massively
No idea how I did the final “uphill” 10km
That’s a well paced race
The pace doesn’t look that great, but looking at HR, seems it was very good for me
Back in 2019, this was my first race in 5 years and I’d only been back running properly for 6 months after my hiatus.
I was aiming for a 1:25-1:30, but the 4% propelled me into the stratosphere Pretty annoyed with those 41 seconds, as had I have known what shape I was in, I’d have tried for a 79min thing
Oh well, it goes nicely with my 5:00.1 mile time, 17:07 5km and 35:01 10km
Bit of a confidence boost this morning. First time I’ve done a duathlon, first run at 3:28/km, second run 3:26 pace for a total of 8km quicker than my assumed 10km pace (I’ve never raced one).
First time looking up what it takes for 75:00 (3:33 k’s). Still think I’m aiming for 3:35s at absolute best, but got to wonder…
Just seen @gingerbongo is lining up in Cardiff too, despite his sandbagging we all know he’s following through on starting this thread
Is he really? Dark horse/ sandbagger extraordinare in that case. He sounded properly convincing that he wasn’t going to do it
Edit: fake news I reckon, just seen Strava & south of Bristol Channel
Not this time!
Didn’t help with the kids arguing in the car on the way!
At 10k the group I was with were pushing 3:46s and I could see my HR creeping up. I slowed it down I thought to 3:50s but there were a few 3:55s that crept in. Final 2k were high 3:50s. Just couldn’t get the legs turning! Minimal HM focus so probably the best I could expect!
