Swimming for Hammers and Spoons

Didn’t know of those, thanks. Ditto @joex. Won’t be back until July as my missus is about to pop but will DM nearer the time if I am still allowed to exercise (post Roth)

I’ve not swam in six months.
Bashed out a couple of 1:32/100m yesterday and an easy 6:36 400m today.

That’ll do me nicely :white_check_mark::ok_hand:t4:

I had the second round of club champs last night - three races which could have gone better, particularly the freestyle, but good to get back in the swing of things.

25m Freestyle - 15.13
25m Butterfly - 16.97
200m IM - 3:15.45

Does anyone have any goggle recommendations for someone with seemingly a high bridge on the nose? Most of them cut across my nose big time. Had the Zoggs predator for a while which were ok but fancy mixing it up and everything else so far has survived 1 maybe 2 failed swims….

Arena swedix as you can use the string and adjust or the plastic

Hmm I tried the decathlon Swedish goggles but the way they sit on my face, I still get discomfort from the string (it sits quite low over my nose where it’s wider). Will look at the Arenas - cheers

The arenas have rubber seals so are better, el nino keeps the plastic nose piece though

Pretty encouraging progress this week recovering from hip injury- getting back to being able to do cautious tumble turns over the last couple of days.

Edit: more progress , managed 1500m without the pull buoy this morning Tuesday 30th. It was more drag than kick & took 33 minutes swim time or 37 minutes total :scream: but still, the right direction of travel.

I’ve a stunning Roman nose and suffer the same issue. Peedo Speedsocket 2 with the V shaped nose bridge work for me. They generally come with a few bridge widths.

Eg.

Not sure we want to be googling for those goggles :eyes:

Thanks! This + the arenas should give me something else to try.

Anyway, whilst on the thread: went to my first swim class yday. 1000 on a Monday morning. Not great timing but no real other options so had to move things around. Turned up and the class was 7 women, 6 of which were OAPs. As a 36y old male at that time, I got a few strange looks rocking up. Still, will give it a go for the next 9 weeks, everyone seemed nice and my technique needs a fair amount of work. Will need to add on a bit of swimming before to build the volume.

Nice evening for a swim…

Is that in the UK? I guess they don’t heat it, was it chilly AF? Looks lovely though!

The few times I swam there, it was way too hot to swim, even at the slow pace I can swim!

They’ve turned the heating down since then Jim. It’s cold when you first jump in but after half a length it’s totally fine. The lower body fat types complain it’s too cold and wear wetsuits though

Yeah, I did wonder if the cost of heating it to sauna levels the whole time had become too much.

Since Better took over Charlton Lido in about 2012, they heat it. It’s only about 24c so can feel cold to some but its non wetsuit temps. Lots wear them in winter though but i find the water nice if you’ve walked half naked in 2c to get from changing room.
