Hampton, just next to Kingston, SW London.
Tri club swim session tonight.
I haven’t been for a few weeks and it showed but just about managed to get through the set:
300m as 75m FC/25m BC;
200m as 75m FC pull/25m scull;
100m FC kick;
4 x 25m FC on 30s;
4 x 50m FC fins on 50s;
2 x 75m FC paddle fins on 1:15;
300m paddles as 75m FC/25m BC;
200m paddle pull as 75m FC/25m scull;
100m FC paddles;
4 x 25m FC paddles on 30s;
4 x 50m FC paddle pull on 50s;
4 x 75m FC paddles on 1:25;
10 x 25m FC on 30s;
50m cool down
I need to get a bit more regular with my attendance. That swim just put me over 25,000 metres for the year so far while my goal for 2024 was originally 200,000 metres!
Thats a lot of paddles work
Enjoyable type2 swim tonight.
Main set was 6 lengths hard, 15 seconds off into 6 easy, 60 seconds off, x 5.
Would have preferred the 60 seconds off after the hard efforts but hey ho. Absolutely ravaged the cupboards when I got home though
I presume you were supposed to recover on the 6 easy?
Very much so, had to be or you can’t go hard on the hard bits!
Good thing to learn/practice, but tough set though
Bloody summer regionals closed the pool today, world schools next weekend - fat old men just don’t seem to be their priority!
So much easier when Better have me a weekend pool in town.
Now I have five hours with nothing to do, and no phone charger.
We need our nation back!
We were there, and tomorrow. Over £10k a day to rent the competition pool, clearly that is better than 10 fat blokes swimming 2mins a hundred . The training pool was open still.
We could’ve put on a show, if they’d only asked!
…Are you not entertained!?!
I got in 18000 steps instead, so “well rested” for tomorrow.
Got rid of the pull buoy a week ago. Kick is slowly slowly coming back.
Date | distance | time
30th | 1500m | 37m08
1st | 1500m | 32m49
2nd | 1500m | 30m12
3rd | 1500m | 29m38
4th |1500m | 28m25
5th | 1500m | 27m16
6th | 1500m | 26m36
At first I just couldn’t seem to keep the pelvis and legs from dragging, but it has gradually got better and tumble turns are now pretty much OK too. Still more keeping the legs afloat than generating forwards propulsion though I think.
A bloke was swimming next to me today & couldn’t let him win, so pushed a little harder. Probably pay for that later
So glad there has been easy access to a pool to keep me from going mad while hip mends.
edit:
7th | 1500m | 25m16 … this rate of improvement can’t go on much longer as my lifetime PB is around 23
was also able to do 50m kick today plus a few lengths aquajogging. Expect it looked a bit daft, but it felt nice
Nice work
I’ve just been “going swimming” for the past 4 weeks (April 9th was my first swim in six months) and have seen a marked improvement
Going to look at an actual plan today
I was 14s off a 6:00 400m this morning;
Went to the pool yesterday.
Heating wasn’t working well, so it was a glorious 26.5 degrees
Started doing 100s off 2:00
Got to 50 with most being around 60 min IM pace
Decided to keep under 1:40 and keep going.
Managed to get to 75 and was going to call it.
Did one at 1:43 and didn’t die
Managed to get to 85 x 100m but lack of nutrition hit and died
I did not do my planned turbo session later in the day…
Bloody hell!!!
What a bank holiday
100 x 100m has always interested me.
half time show, I’d have paid extra to see you on the 10m diving board
weirdo
How do you manage to get so much pool time?
Will give the 100x100 a go on hols in October.
Private gym innit. (Virgin, Nuffield, David Lloyd, Total Fitness, etc)
No school lessons, no AquaRobics on a bank holiday, kids all in the 20m outdoor pool on warm days, most people playing squash/tennis/Padel on weekends.
Means the pool is bear dead most times.
Lanes have PROPER ropes (not just ropes, but the plastic things all the way down) and are done properly (slow → medium → fast as anti clockwise, clockwise, anti etc) so you can just duck under into medium when doing BR or kick drills, and don’t smash your arm against someone coming towards you.
They open at 6am or before. With no squad sessions booked.
Or at least, that was my experience of them a decade ago.
Mostly what @Poet said.
I pay £120 a month for David Lloyd.
Pool opens at 6am (7am on weekends and BHs)
There are 3 separate lanes and a general area, plus a 20m outdoor,
The lane discipline is pretty much ignored by most.
The slow and medium lanes generally have two people in them going up and down, with people just walking.
For the most part, I’m in when it opens and stake out the “fast” lane.
90% of the time, I’ll have to myself, mostly as I’ve garnered a reputation for being a dick.
By dick it means, actually following the sign that says “fast” and swimming ACW.
I’m past caring these days and will just swim at people if they don’t follow the sign or just have a stand up row.
Monday also had the bonus of the pool heating being “broken” so lots of people didn’t even get in.
Sadly I don’t think it last.
