Talk to me about Outdoor Gear

GAH!!!

Hence why is a personal “favourite”

And from such an esteemed member :sob::sob::sob:

Why hence why?

Seems innocuous enough to me …

Hence literally means why;

“I ride a lot of trails, hence I bought a gravel bike”

“I ride a lot of trails, that’s why I bought a gravel bike”

It is akin to saying “PIN Number” or “ATM Machine”

Thanks.

We do a lot of outdoor walking/hiking /running - in the Lake District most weekends . My f-i-l just happens to live near the Montane factory shop Mountain Kit | Montane Factory Shop | Ashington, Northumberland – Montane - UK so if you are ever in the North East definitely worth a look and you can get some great discounted last season stuff. ( I look like I am sponsored by them as I have that much kit!)

Not sure I agree … mainly because I’m twiddling my thumbs waiting for the family to wake up and partly to wind you up obviously  .

Hence doesn’t translate directly as ‘why’ as per the definition.

“Hence why” is more akin to "As a consequence, [that’s] why … ".

Have a read of this whilst you’re waiting and get back to me :relaxed:

Similar to “close proximity”
All very much like the “Happy Christmas” example from a politician given on another thread :+1:t3:

Your not being very pacific, hence has a fairly unique meaning.

IMHO, the ‘hence’ adds clarity to the ‘why’.
Similarly, whilst proximity means ‘nearness’, ‘close proximity’ means very close. I think most people are able to differentiate between the two.

In both cases, I would suggest that stripping back the phrase causes it to lose some depth. In other words, it’s more an issue of style than accuracy.

If you want to discuss affect and effect or the misuse of apostrophes in plurals, then I’ll be with you all the way

Snagged some Speedcross 4s for £50 on ebay, to go with the replacement Ultra 3 mids.

Starting to feel like Poet with all these buys.

Good deal that. They’re all I wear off-road. I find the heels rub through eventually, even with gorilla tape reinforcement.

Speedcross? I find my Saucony trail shoes are the same, even when just worn as ‘Dad shoes’; after less than a year the heel lining is through to the plastic!

Yup the Speedcross. Nowadays I preemptively apply gorilla tape to the heels else they only last a year.

I have some Peregrine 10s and seem to be the only person on the planet that can’t get on with them.
