Why TF?
I think it’s good - the only people who care what marathons we’ve done are other marathon runners, so get us all in a room, fill us with beer and we can get it out of our systems before releasing us back into the wild.
I’ll post my Insta story* of the evening so you can enjoy.
*Don’t really know what this is so substitute for other annoying social media phrase if more appropriate
The standard prize for winning a regatta when I rowed was a pint tankard. Between Mrs W and me we’ve got dozens of the things in a box in the garage.
One of the blokes at my club used to make a point if he won at the weekend to walk into the club bar after training in the Monday night, slap his tankard down on the bar and ask the bar man to fill it with beer
You can’t drink a pint out of a medal
I think some endurance sports to belt buckles which tickled my fancy until I realised it would look even weirder than wearing a medal down the street.
I’d prefer some other token and reserve medals for the podium but, what can you do?
I see the winner of 50-54 ran 2:25
My Arc one? Gold.
But I have one from Jurassic Coast too.
He’s just turned 50
Guy who finished behind him has ran similar times in the past. Looks like he had a bad day on Sunday;
160-200km weeks over a few years, semi-retired and a good coach and nutrition plan, plus lots of rest and I can see how it’d be achievable.

Look at the drop in times between 2017 and 2018…
ooh sub 30!
I know you were all waiting, so put away PH etc. And bask in the glory:
Joking aside, I was a little surprised that I’m the only Ironman in our running club since May 2019. We are quite a big club 600+ so a bit disappointed, but I’ve encouraged a few up to 70.3 level.
600 members?!
Our club is c100 members, must be at least 20, possibly 25 IM finishers.
Running or tri?
You should see the conversion rate of the Pembs based clubs!
We have 6 IM finishers out of about 30 members of our informal ultra running club, which isn’t bad. That’s out of 7 who’ve ever done a tri. But I keep recruiting one every ear or so.
my son now wins real medals not participation ones , unlike me who hasnt won a bean since i stopped playing youth football at 15
The middle one is county schools relay champs boys 4x50 Free , silver from Saturday and silver and bronze from 50 and 100 bk respectively at the Autumn Gold on Sunday
Running.
I think we have three other IMs but not in recent years, and they were one & dones. We only have a handful of triathletes that I’m aware of.
They gave me my own little soundtrack every time one of mine was announced last night
Four pints and boy am I hungover though.
We have a few serial marathoners, one does one per month and one does blooming loads, four or five in a month I think.
Good work there from your lad.
yer hes really enjoying his swimming and its paying off. He enjoyed Breaststoke most but now seems to have become pretty good backstroker, his 50 was a county time as well which is amazing considering all the covid issues of the past two odd years. When some of his friends were winnign and he was showing up, pb’ing but not near a podium I always told him keep plugging away and the rewards will come. They develop so differently and it eventually all comes back together. Just keep enjoying it, putting in the work at training and when the gaps equalise it should pay off. Too much in kids sport is about the current times, winning at all costs and not the future, keeping them happy and fit and healthy means the future is bright, whether that’s as an elite, as a master or just keeping fit for leisure!
Good for Age close this Friday. I’m not sure whether to enter or not; I feel I might be entering because I can and FOMO rather than actually wanting to do it.
I doubt my 10 seconds under will give me much chance
