TCS London Marathon 2025

Have you done it before? It’s a week before 3peaks - where I have unfinished business - so it’s one or the other!

5 mins 33 secs under so quite hopeful of a GFA for April 2023.

I’ll have to wait 2 years for a new age group

Done it about 5 times, it’s why I’ve never done 3 peaks until this year, they always clashed and then I didn’t have the relevant qualifiers.

I don’t think I’ll rush back to the 3 peaks, I enjoyed it and got good conditions but it’s a gruelling race and takes a bit of recovery

Same, Y3P is a one and done for me, I enjoyed the race and was happy with how I ran but it’s not a super inspiring course compared to the big Lakes ALs

Plus it’s a PITA to get to.

I’m hoping to do a few more Lakeland AL’s next year, always wanted another go at Borrowdale.

Would love to try Jura but getting in is difficult, and getting there!

Wow, so a 2:55 m 18-39 runner doesn’t get in on GFA! :scream:

Identify as female and away you go - 3h 45!

I thought I’d hate London, but went once despite my reservations. It was actually pretty cool in the end, even though I picked up an injury.

I’d be tempted to do it again one day.

Yeah, the woman I trained with last year ran 3.26 this time and qualifies again. She’s done two in 12 months and don’t think she’s up for another mara programme in 6 months time. They’re really tiring if you train properly and go for a time.

Yeah, I really enjoy London, being there, doing London things.

But my first half marathon was in Nottingham (think @jgav was still at uni then  ) and was so busy, I hated it.
I could not abide by that mass start, so always wanted (!) to get a Championship spot.
75 minutes never really seemed that hard with a bit of training, but it is now at 72 minutes, which seems utterly grotesque.

GFA at sub 3:05 seems okay, although a bit soft

Oh i meant the mara.

I hate the city. Well, that’s a bit strong. I can take it for about a day, then i’m desperate to get away. Too many people. Which is why i thought i’d hate the mara, but it does make for a pretty cool event!

Yeah i think the sub 2.45 champs spot is now easier than the sub 72, whereas it used to be the other way around i reckon. I just can’t see myself ever putting in like 6 months of proper, dedicated road running training now. I think that ship may have sailed for me.

I’ll dabble in tri, short and long. Trail both short and long and just see what comes.

Erm, it’s sub 2:40 now :open_mouth:

Yeah, got what you meant about the marathon and London
You liked the marathon despite the people, but that’s why you don’t like the city.
I like the city because of the buzz of the people, but think that’s why I would not like the marathon (based on previous experiences - see: Mallorca, Scotland etc. )

Oh is it, 2.40! I hadn’t realised that. Well i guess it makes it a bit more ‘proper’ champs then! Guess they’re knocking off a few mins cos carbon.

Oh well, that’s triple nailed my coffin then. No way i’m going sub 2.40. But i did think* i had a <75 and a <2.45 in me.

*think being totally anchored in accurate science and not egotistical conjecture!

Calling @YKK that’s your kinda time right?

It’s only 8 x sub-18min 5km’s, then a bit more, though, right?
Or 4 x 36:30 10km’s, plus a little bit more.
or 2 X 1:20 half’s

SIMPLE!

Exactly!!!

You just have to break it up into smaller chunks
(I say this every night about the chocolate bars  )

Just longer intervals, innit.
