Is he still pretty lean these days?
Stupid question. Rain is forecast. I take it there’s no issues with me attaching my number to my running belt rather than to my top?
Thinking if I start in my long sleeves and then it dries up or I get hot I’d want to take it off but if my number is attached that’s a problem.
Only cos pretty much every photo I’ve seen of the marathon people have their number pinned onto their top.
Other option is to wear my long sleeve base layer and then just roll up my sleeves if it warms up I suppose.
Edit to say I’ve ran long runs in all these clothing combos so there’s nothing new on race day here.
How quick are you running Paul? Dress for the 2nd Mile. Just put a throwaway poncho on till the start then get running. I imagine id be shorts vest and gloves unless the weather cooled a lot.
The celebrity list isnt very exciting. Noticed former pro cyclist Alex Dowsett though. Wonder if he will be scaring the champs runners or just jogging round
I see no issue with that at all. As long as the number isn’t folded or bent you’ll be fine. The timing chip is part of the number (there’s a foam bit on the back that covers it up and it’s about 1.5 inches wide and maybe 5 inches long from memory. Just keep that uncovered and you’ll be fine.
I’m sure there’ll be some ultra-runner types who have the number pinned to their shorts - just like triathletes who love a visor!
This. It’ll be cold waiting for the start but put a throwaway t-shirt or poncho on and you’ll soon bin it - this is expected as bins etc are provided for all of this. The weather is looking very similar to what we had for Manchester marathon. My friends said they were cold on the startline but by mile 2 they were fine in t-shirts or vests.
ETA: from the event guide
Ah great thanks. It’s probably more the wind I’m bothered about than the rain. Need to remind myself that whatever the conditions it will still be about 5 degrees hotter than Glasgow!
30,000 people will give you a lot of shelter from the wind in those first few miles
I was going to say, there are very few spots on that route where you’ll likely notice the wind.
Good luck to you all, looking forward to reading the reports
I’ll be at my usual spot spectating… left hand side of the road at Rotherhithe station reminding people that they’re not even at the half way point yet…
So “Just stop oil” are committed to disrupting the marathon and Extinction Rebellion are committed to protecting it.
Sounds like there’s going to be a fight
I hope they are using ethically sourced handbags
Just Stop Oil are regularly around Trafalgar square these last six months already. Not much anyone can do though, so th we rhey do or they don’t.
Perhaps they could glue themselves to each other and the police could scoop them up in a big congealed chardonnay socialist gloop.
Not a socialist movement imo
I will be disappointed if they fuck up the London Mara but I’m proud we have groups like these openly protesting
It feels a bit like the Judean Popular People’s Front and the Popular People’s Front of Judea with these rival groups all campaigning for the same thing but presumably deciding that the other groups aren’t being active enough
