Nah, they run NYC - $295 for non-NYRR members
I got in on Ballot, having bequeathed entry to ‘double my chances’.
For those who think they can qualify for a GFA place, I have spotted a rare fast & flat late summer race still in the 2024 entry window, that I was otherwise going to do, tho it’s right at the end of the GFA application window!
RUNNING GP BEDFORD AUTODROME 24th SEPTEMBER 2023
I’ve enquired, and it would count for GFA, and is flat and fast and an accurate distance apparently.

And Goodwood the week before which I assume is equally flat / open to the elements!
The Bedford course must be really fast as the map has you going through the chicanes each lap, presumably to scrub off some speed
Takes enough out of me to get ready for 1 marathon. 2 in 6 months is not for me. If I do a spring marathon mext year, I will pick a small one I can enter nearer the time.
Goodwood isn’t quite pancake flat (and effin windy) but if memory serves, it’s about 130mtrs for the marathon.
yes the 255 Tri was a tad wind prone
nice, well done
5 mins
Standard is getting better each year. That makes it 2:55 for 18-39
That would be a 3.15 for me!
Just looked at the standards out of curiosity. Not sure how scientific the figures are, but it seems 60 is when it all starts going south, and again at 70. But if you survive that you keep going OK until late 80s.
And a funny women’s target 45-49?
Age | Men | Women |
---|---|---|
18-39 | sub 3:00:00 | sub 3:45:00 |
40-44 | sub 3:05:00 | sub 3:50:00 |
45-49 | sub 3:10:00 | sub 3:53:00 |
50-54 | sub 3:15:00 | sub 4:00:00 |
55-59 | sub 3:20:00 | sub 4:05:00 |
60-64 | sub 3:45:00 | sub 4:30:00 |
65-69 | sub 4:00:00 | sub 5:00:00 |
70-74 | sub 5:00:00 | sub 6:00:00 |
75-79 | sub 5:15:00 | sub 6:20:00 |
80-84 | sub 5:30:00 | sub 6:40:00 |
85-89 | sub 6:10:00 | sub 7:10:00 |
90+ | sub 7:20:00 | sub 7:45:00 |
I want to have a crack at the GFA for NY Marathon.
For M60 it is 3:34!!! However you can get a GFA for a half marathon; well as long as you go sub 1:41
The women’s GFA times are pretty lame, I know several who laugh at how easy they are!
Put them in the age grading calculator and %age wise they’re a lot easier than male.
London doesn’t use HM for their GFA but looks like NY does. The NY standards are even higher than London and I’d still have to run sub 1.21.
Edit: Make that 1:23, I’m not as young as I used to be…
I’d double check that? There was something similar when I looked but it was either very limited half’s or you still had to do a full?
It was a long time ago though so could be more straightforward now.
The perils of being young
1:32 isn’t that difficult, quite a few on here can almost do it on a 70.3
It’s still a decent time by most standards but yes, a lot easier than a sub 2:53 for example.
I will do thanks.
They are also very clear about the fact that just because you achieve the GFA that does not guarantee entry into the race. So there are clearly lots of M60s out there who can go sub 3:34
Those half times look easier than the full. Even if they are equivalent, you can have multiple attempts at a half but could easily have a bad day or bad conditions and your full is blown.
I guess they are trying to get the women’s entries up, like IM. Do they have the same 5 minute above standard cut-off as @TROSaracen stated, or are the men’s a women’s allocation kept completely separate?
nice to say the womens times are “easy”. Have you actually checked how many women go sub-4???
The women’s times were all adjusted down because of popularity. My friend was 1 mins under the time at Manchester then they adjusted down by 2 mins so she missed it. I get why they do it but moving goalposts is a tough one once everything is already registered.
