TCS London Marathon 2025

Well done. Was beginning to think no one was getting in.

Still not had mine yet.

Is that a recent change because I deferred my GFA back in 2017?

Yeah same. I deferred my gfa once before as well.

I deferred from 2012 to 2013 but yup, a GFA doesn’t allow that now but I have no idea when that rule came in.

Good For Age places are awarded based on qualifying times achieved within the designated qualifying period and cannot be deferred. The only exception is if you are pregnant or postpartum.

Think this must be my 11th or 12th year of a big fat no

Fookin’ nae for me too

Have to traipse around madchester instead

… so is that it for Bolton? End of an era. Have they plans for Ironman England then? Perhaps an Ironman Scotland ( we should be so lucky, lucky lucky lucky )

Finally got my NO email at almost 7PM.

So is @funkin the token “yes” to prove to us that the ballot isn’t just a scam?

:roll_eyes::rofl:

The consensus in our running club seems to be that it’s all gone to novice runners not in clubs. 1 person from the running club has a place. I know 2 complete novices with entries. It is a bit mad.

If British athletics really wanted to grow they should do a deal to get more places for club registered runners rather than just champs or GFA. I am grateful for my “no” though :joy::joy:

they do give out club places but not sure on exact threshold. We get one place to give out to someone in the club (which we do as a lottery from the rejects who haven’t got GFA, run in last 2 years, etc) and I think if we had 150+ 18+ year olds we would get a second place. Not sure what the minimum is otherwise you would have people setting up their own club to get a spot.

I think we got 1 place last year, used to be 4.

We do exactly the same. We get 2 places for a club of 300 people.

What I mean is a ballot dedicated to UKA registered runners. But clearly the charities count for a lot more in the minds of organisers than actual runners.

When i was at Voda, a colleague with Tadley Runners got one of the two spots given to their club. (he squandered it, early 30s, single, no kids but somehow went 4.51 :man_shrugging: )

I’d actually disagree. They demand a lot of their sponsors. That’s where the money comes from. Adidas still sponsors other WMM but they didn’t see London as worth the investment.

I know the charities pay a bit but the entries for individuals has doubled and charities demand and extortionate amount from their runners to cover their costs.

Not sure how much it was to enter this year but thought it was pretty reasonable last year (obvs didn’t get in).

Compared to a lot of races it is good value.

It was 50 quid for 2023 and is now £70 for next year. Quite a jump but for me individually I’m happy to pay that for what I get out of it.

It is good value.

$235 for Boston as a comparison, and I don’t think you get anything ‘less’ for London.

Do Ironman run Boston marathon?:rofl::rofl:
