The 2020 weigh-in thread

Alcohol is processed down to the same things as fat and carbs are in the body, so I can’t believe that is true - however obviously you process it regardless of the immediate need unlike carbs/fat so you don’t get to use the produced energy immediately for activity etc.

For me, as much as the alcohol calories, it’s additional calories consumed the next day, as the day after drinking too much are the only days I start eating before the afternoon, and I don’t reduce the total amount eaten later.

As I understand it your body focuses on expelling the alcohol first ans so cant process other stuff at the same time so sugar gets converted to fat.

But I am the same the booze makes me make bad choices with food. I eat crap with it, crap the next day etc.

I used to be like you Jorgan, but in the last couple of years my weight has very slowly but steadily crept up. Veganuary has been quite interesting. I have not found it as hard as I thought I would and I’ve quite enjoyed the challenge. Ultimately, I am only snacking on fruit and the odd handful of cashew nuts, between meals. It’s made me cut out pastry, chocolate and most crisps overnight. I don’t actually feel like I am on a diet and i’m making sure that I’m getting plenty of carbs and protein in my 3 main meals. As it is, I’ve gone from a high of 77kgs on January 2nd to 72.2kgs last night. The lightest I have been in a long while.

Yeah but that’s a steady state of affairs for the rest of the year as well. I’m non teetotal, I’d probably have 10-12 full strength beers a year.

It was the same in Oz when they used to go nuts over ‘talk like a pirate day’, which was kind of every day for me.

I think this is a misrepresentation, (not yours) a bit like training different systems - our bodies are analogue, and do loads of different things at the same time. I don’t think other things are turned off while alcohol is processed, I just think it takes up some of the capacity of the liver but not all of it.

I’m going dry except for the odd night out until my first tri this year in May

It’s my birthday first week in Feb, so doubtless I will have a drink on the Sat night; thank goodness it’s the 1st Feb!

I’m going to have to wait until the Saturday after my birthday next year!

#notme :joy:

I don’t drink that much anyway but did have a few nights out before Christmas. Never drink at home either.

I don’t see the point in restricting myself.

Same with veganuary, life’s too short to miss out on milk, cheese and meat :cut_of_meat: :yum:, although tbf I don’t really eat much meat either, and vegan alternatives are usually rank

I could pretty easily go vegetarian, and have cut down on meat a lot over the past few years. i wouldn’t miss it if it went completely, but then i’d also never commit myself to something like that. I don’t think i would like to cut chorizo out of my life though!!!

I’ve really got a thing for vege burgers at the moment and much prefer them to beef. Never was a massive fan of beefburgers anyway, but i think vege/vegan offerings have got much better.

I have gone for cutdownuary. It was mine and my wife’s bday last weekend, but only had a glass of wine and a beer (one on each day), as i drank more than ever this xmas … though still not a hgue amount. Just tended to have a glass/beer pretty much every day.

Trying to decide whether or not to open a bottle of wine this weekend … probably will to be honest! haha

Ha, I don’t mind a veggie burger actually!

Got a thing at the mo for Linda McCartney Veggie Mozzarella burgers, they are very yum!

i had one of those for lunch yesterday!

Waitrose Moroccan falafels. That is all.

Been a veggie nearly 30 years

Big big improvements especially the last decade as the big food companies caught on to the market trends.

Giving up meat was effortless … Bread is much much harder and I’ve failed countless times

Still 17 days and counting…!

I had a Linda McCartney cycling jersey, way back in the day.
