The 496 Challenge

Time?
There’s 24 hours in a day :person_shrugging:t3:
8 for sleeping, 7 for work, 2 for eating and dossing, leaves a good 7 hours for “whatever” :white_check_mark::joy:

:wink::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Anyways … did ~13km at lunch.
Sweating. Actually dripping off me!
Took my hat and gloves off and it just continued to pour off me.
Snow was melting around me, I was that warm :joy:

er yeah, but why I do want to do it running for a pointless challenge?

For me this thing isn’t 100% pointless, it feels like a good way to get a new training stimulus that the poor unsuspecting body has never experienced before.

So, maybe 99% pointless :smiley:

I feel the end is nigh though, don’t know whether it will be injury, logistics or CBA that kills it first. Planning to run at least 1 more day mind, to test the Bluetooth headphones.

From a physical point of view, all joints and muscles feel OK still. Tired, but Ok. Except something in hip adductor regions starting to subtly declare itself maybe.

I guess the difference is that this is barely different from last january for me, I ran 15km both yesterday and today, that probbably wasn’t that common, but it’s not much different from running 12 and 13 which is very common - in fact as I’m running at a lower intensity it’s likely even similar load.

Anyway, did the 6.1km walk to the shops to meet the minimum.

I ran 30hrs total last year.
About 400km.

It’s not pointless to me;

breathing is better.
sleep is better.
alcohol intake is zero.
weight is down.

That’s four great points :compass:

My weekly average last year was about 30km, so starting with something in the bank. But not 70km like Jim.

half marathon mid Feb, as long as I don’t hobble myself. So maybe it will help towards that too :man_shrugging:t2:

Eh?
This Sunday pal!
Start of the 100mile week on Saturday :joy:

haha pretty sure I won’t survive until Sunday

having said that, work is exactly 21km away so maybe could ditch the bike :thinking:

trouble is, also got to do a day’s work without being completely wrecked :smiley:

Dude, you strong, like bull :muscle:t3::ox:

I used to do 25-30km before work and survived.

Dont be “bull” headed about it.
Do some walking, split the runs up :white_check_mark:

Make simples like Efes 0%

edit: done for the day. Can you tell which KM I walked? HR still high…

that’s solid. How are the legs holding up? Mine certainly don’t feel daisy -fresh any more

Legs feel fine :mechanical_leg::mechanical_leg:
Right knee actually still can’t fully flex from the bike spill.
It does feel like there’s a stone under the ball of my right foot.

I’ve been really easy, with some proper walking days (2 walking only days last week), so okay … for now!

I’ll reassess Friday morning, when I’ll be wanting a lie in :face_with_peeking_eye:

I’ve a ~10kg back pack for tomorrow :face_vomiting::cry:
Looking at “slimming” down my packed lunch :face_with_peeking_eye:

Hopefully, facilities can sort me out with an overnight locker, so I can leave my clothes, wash bag and laptop overnight :white_check_mark::+1:t3:

The headphones are fantastic!

Cut out all wind, felt pretty light, great sound quality. Better in every way than any buds I have ever tried. No dangly wire obviously. Sweat was not a problem today (are sweaty ears even a thing??)

The only downside is think may have quadrupled risk of being mown down by a 'Cruiser.

Edit: Just seen @Poet got out in the snow for 16km being dragged by hounds like an old school polar explorer :ice_cube: :muscle:t2:

They are for me, I’ve ruined loads of earplugs over the years.

Recent Apple ones are much better though.

I’m not sure if @fruit_thief will be inspiring or intimidating the 496ers as they log on each morning to see he’s already taken care of business.

Great effort.

Not quite :joy::face_with_peeking_eye:
Check out the elapsed time :roll_eyes:
2km walk at 8am, 14km run at lunch, 2km walk after work.
Just pressed “Resume Later”

Back to five activities for today :joy::joy::joy:

@fruit_thief - Have you joined the Strava Club?

I was up at 4, so I could’ve… indeed I probably should’ve as I have to wait around for a delivery, and work, so I will struggle to find the time - whatever Poet says, I’m not fitting in a load of short runs to get up the time. F’ing tired too with the just four hour sleep bit.

I’ll almost certainly be walking some today anyway.

yes, but just out of idle curiosity.

There are some machines on there, like the guy who appears to have slotted in a 66km run with a couple of km elevation :exploding_head:

surprised to see apparently there are some places even flatter than where I am, which is pretty hard to imagine. Most of my elevation comes from repeatedly crossing an underpass beneath Dukhan Road.

Will probably be the shortest lived member of the club, might have 1 more day left in me but that’s about it I reckon.

I’m pooped!
Might be out tomorrow
Don’t know if I CBA to jog back into Cov from work when two colleagues are getting an über :face_with_peeking_eye::joy:

EDIT: my back is not happy after carrying the load in this morning :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
