I have already ‘pitted myself’ against all that shite countless times. I just fancied doing it as a race, pitted against a bunch of blokes in camo
It’s clear that a lot of people love his sound bites and his ‘brand’, and he feeds off that. Either that or the Army completely brainwashed him; I’ve seen plenty of that close up.
Update. ‘Miraculously’, the erstwhile Mr Jones saw this message and told me to calm myself and not accuse him of having a moral issue (I told to spend less time posting cryptic crap on SM and answer his comms).
So I’ve asked the same question again, when are we getting the race pack? And I suggested he fix his form that is on his website that he apparently can’t see until someone uses it three times!
I feel a bit like a Karen and probably should have had coffee first but c’mon, how hard is it to write back and say. ‘haven’t forgotten, email will be out shortly’ or whatever.
To be fair, if AEE’s communication strategy was more coherent, you wouldn’t need to be chasing him. He’s fighting on too many fronts, and needs a chronological ‘to do’ list. His delivery is ‘scatter-gun’.
He has always been like this. Hes been promising a new website for about a year. If you want to get involved in the test march series you need a PhD in cryptography to workout how to get on one.
ETA - although the other lot are even worse. The guy who runs that apparently failed selection on the first couple of days and has never even been in UKSF
My impression, is that doing a Test Week March (TWM) has a lot to do whether you are in his ‘circle’ or not (either ex Army buddy, or AEE regular). It’s clear from the few vague posts on FB, that some guys know what’s going-on and there are also comments from accommodation owners who’ve had cancellations, but don’t know why. Ken is trying to create a ‘brand’ based on an ethos; the trouble is that he’s struggling to equally meet his personal aspirations, those of his former Army comrades and the paying public.
To be fair, apart from his overly long communications via email, he dealt with the first COVID-related postponement well.
He’s come back an apologised, saying there was an error with the contact form. Also said that the kit list was part of the welcome mail but I didn’t get any such mail, just a PayPal confirmation.
Have you had a welcome mail?
ETA: I don’t know him from a bar of soap, or any of history and TBH, I just entered because it was the only thing going at the time.
I got the kit list, and all the advice info on training/prep when I entered originally in January this year. It was a good comprehensive info pack; I then got one from the Mountain Safety Team back in May or June, talking about those aspects, and one from the ‘Signals Officer’ too iirc. It was all fine and dandy up to and including the first postponement in June (for the July weekends). It’s just what’s happening now, with the vague FB leaks of info, which just cause unneeded conjecture, and lack of confidence.
Rather than post anything on FB, I’ve sent a brief email requesting clarification on what’s happening wrt the Saturday 19th event. I’m happy to roll back to a Winter FD in Jan.
Oh, I’m absolutely sure I didn’t get anything but I entered around June time, so maybe something changed. I don’t mind if I need to buy something, I just need to know what it is and have time to get it.
So the official email has come out. It seems to focus on the replacement Shropshire Hills event on the 20th and anyone who was down to do the 20th Sep Fan Dance; who have to let the RD know if they would rather have a deferral to a Winter date. It’s not crystal clear where those entered for the 19th Sep stand, but I think that the subtext is that the default for us is a Winter FD date (tbc).
