The over 50's

?

We are all different but I had zero side effects.

Feels like top trumps, what is your Garmin fitness age and actual age? After 2 years of injury and COVID I’m slowly getting back in shape and despite my knees creaking loudly I can still run and cycle. This is going to be my race year as I break into this elite age category.

It’s a strong age group, I know a few others moving into this year.

TBF The bar is low for a fitness age of 20. Well, for anyone that actually excerises.

My targets…

Although, I believe at some point in the last year there was a firmware update for my forerunner and now the minimum age I can possibly get is my biological age - 10 years. (I might go and check that is still true, it was a bit of a shock when it jumped from 20 to 41 over night, even though I was getting fitter at the time)

If you have it available in Garmin Connect its under

More > performance stats > race predictor

I dont know for sure but I assume you need gps and heart rate, so yes probably a watch.

Yeah, I’m missing Race Predictor in the performance stats list (I have VO2, Training Effect, Power Curve, FTP and Lactate Threshold).

I’ve a Forerunner 735XT watch which I only wear when exercising. So I don’t have any resting HR type stats.

Garmin claims a 20 year old. I’m 52 years old tomorrow. :man_shrugging:

Don’t update the forerunner it will age you 22 years.

(actually 23, as its age - 9 years 364 days is the lowest age)

As a rough idea when my Garmin VO2max was 59 (it seems to vary +/- about 30s for me at a give VO2max value, the various distance prediction also vary dependant on sessions completed, I guess a pace duration curve) last June in the taper for Swansea 70.3 the race predictor gave the following.

My peak last year (for 5km and 10km) when I set my 10km PB 41:3x
VO2max 60

Marathon predictor peak was a month earlier 3:08:38.

It is fair to say I’m not getting anywhere near the Garmin race predictions.

I’m 52, real age btw.

Unless I’m recording an activity, I find the optical HRM on my Fenix 6 to be a bit rubbish.

If I wear it while I’m doing an activity on Zwift at quite a high intensity, the Garmin HR recorded is usually barely above resting, so while I wasn’t working and I was doing an hour on Zwift every day, Garmin was telling me that I was de-training.

Conversely, when I was commuting for 30 minutes each way through traffic Garmin thought my fitness was improving because it was recording more time in higher HR zones

Mine does something similar when I’m Zwift or the treadmill, basically if I’m not recording it on the watch. Although if I go to the HR screen and it pairs with my chest strap I think it improves, need to check that.

Makes sense on the max fitness age improvement. Slowly improving the fitness looking to peak for the duathlon champs in March and April.
