The over 50's

Dude, you’re 55 and the guy asked you if you were over 50 - that’s a win in my book

Think yourself lucky, when my folks aged late 70s came out to visit, Mrs FT and I took them to a pay beach, but it turns out that it’s free for over 60s.

The guy on security thought that only Mrs FT had to pay, ie she was the only one obviously under 60- she was rubbing that one in for weeks.

Will we need an over a century thread? I know this has been bandied around before. FWIW I don’t have a strength check but instead of using a tennis ball I squeezed a similar sized plastic bottle.

I got bored after 40 seconds which sounded decent for my age, and it was digging into my hand.

I guess it assumes you avoid places like Australia and Canada :snake::bear::shark::joy:

Dan Loyd covered grip strength in his excellent health series. It was interesting but he stressed it was only one indicator.

think I’m doomed, just tried squeezing a tennis ball and it was having none of it :open_mouth::coffin:

Made me laugh reading these. My daughter tried to get me to do a cartwheel the other day. I fell over. She tried to get me to do the splits. I fell over. Tried to do a simple full squat. Fell over. I’m v inflexible and I’m tired out walking a couple of flights of stairs.
Yet I can run over hills for several hours

yes, the risk is that people see the headline and train their grip strength - but nobody is saying the relationship is causal. People with good grip strength are likely to be healthy for other reasons (e.g. gym, climbing, gardening etc)

You’d think I’d know better but I woke up yesterday morning and felt like a walk so me and Mut, without even a cup of tea, sip of water or a biscuit beforehand, went walking. Two hours later I stumbled home; dog really enjoyed himself, me absolutely knackered. Today I’m really sore in my lower back and upper legs and everywhere in between. Like post IM sore.

Is this what being 50+ is like? No wonder Giantman used to moan so much. I’m not looking forward to graduation to the Over 60s thread in a couple of years.

Anyway, I really enjoyed it all. :slightly_smiling_face:

How did you lot mark your 50th?

I find myself becoming obsessed with finding a plain navy suit that will last until I’m 60. :man_facepalming:t2: Failing that a pair of black loafers. :man_facepalming:t2::man_facepalming:t2: How did I become so boring?

I had a group of families party in Greenwich park for my 40th at no cost which people still remember, did my first Ironman at IMUK and bought an Omega Seamaster, although that last purchase took years to happen and conclude.

50 x 50m off 50s, you know you want to.

I just about managed it but made things a little more challenging by falling off my bike in the days before, and having a sore back as a result.
