Probably wouldn’t rent it out, I can’t see it happening really as I doubt Rach would be interested, although leaving a building empty isn’t a good idea. I do have 2 sisters that live 5 minutes either way and would probably check it though.
I’m trying to bear that in mind about wishing it away. Partly why I’ve got no intention to leave my current job. It’s 15 minutes driving so helps with time etc and fairly well paid.
I’m trying to do a lot of things now, particularly sport related and although it wasn’t quite the plan next year to have so many big races it is looking good if it goes as planned.
I guess we race to “ justify “ the silly amounts of training most of us do, prove to ourselves we can achieve our goals and impress our peers ( mostly here these days ).
If the fitness gods appeared and said the perfect race Kona q what ever, or squat your body weight for 100 reps no racking…
Pick one, I’d almost certainly go for the first option.
It would be very very close though.
We all train race and do basically unhealthy amounts of exercise for different reasons.
What ever it is I’m fine with it.
My massage girl would make a cracking athlete, she trains 12-14 hours a week , she ran a 19 min 5 as intervals !! last year.
She has no desire to put a number on at all.
As we age we probably race for different reasons, 60… strewth
A, I have a friend who is a really good trainer but doesn’t race much at all. Always winding up each other about how much I do race and how little she does!
I have no interest in racing, sometimes I used to enter races 'cos they were a good chance to get some external motivation to train harder (that is the race would be the training harder, not that I’d train harder because of a race), and cycle racing in entertaining in itself, but no interest at all in a race now - Otter has no interest in competing in anything at all, we went into the bouldering gym just as their round of the regional climbing competition, she looked at some of the problems, 10 minutes flashed enough for second place, but no interest in entering, she quit the swim squad as soon as they got competitive about stuff etc. She’s 100% behind the idea of sport as a participatory activity.
The rest of the family of course always likes competing, but only to win, and finds my attitude fine (why enter if you’re not going to win?) but Otter’s frustrating (why don’t you want to, you could win?)
I’m closer to 60 than 50 and I absolutely love events but I have a hard time digging deep these days. I wouldn’t do any exercise if it were just for keep fit sake, although I started running to get fitter for moto racing and then flexibility and strength for surfing.
But events are starting to mean something different. Completing rather than anything else, even in my AG. This is a definite shift in mindset for me and has come on the back of some injuries and two DNFs this year.
It’s all about having fun with LO these days. She’ll be leaving me for dead soon.
I shouldn’t really be on here for another 6 months and I’ve only got a bit of silver around the edges, but I’m a bit jealous of Nick’s thick barnet. I’m still just about covered on top, but it’s receded a long way.
No way I’d dye the grey though. Chicks love a silver fox, right?
Ok. So initial verdict is it has made a slight difference. May have underdone it but guess that’s the best way. Not brave enough to post another photo. Will see if I get ripped to shreds at work tomorrow.
