Think I’ve only managed about 3 myself, just struggle with concentration.
Hmm, looking pretty likely the government will be bringing forward the state pension age to 68 a lot sooner than planned which will mean most of us waiting up to another year
This is despite life expectancy actually falling, and in some parts of the country healthy lifespan is actually less than state pension age.
Have to wait for the final guidance, as the CARE part of my pension is now linked to the state pension age I think.
Gits!
Duck that !
As soon as I have enough I’m off ! No pockets in a huub aero shroud !
Hit my target this year, see what next year brings
I was just about to update my retirement spreadsheet to include state pension at 68 and find I’d already done it at some point. Shows the lack of faith they would have second thoughts on the move. Maybe I should pre-empt and change it to 70 or Never now.
I think most people on here probably have other pension arrangements that will form the bulk of their retirement income, so the state pension is just the icing on the top.
However, there is a likely impact on anyone wanting to retire “early” because you’ll only be able to access your personal pension 10 years before your state retirement age.
I just made the cut to still be able to retire at 55 as things currently stand, but people slightly younger than me might find that they have to wait a little bit longer
I’m like that. Not been in the UK enough to really amount to much and not paid in enough NI to ever get a full state pension. There really is no state pension in Oz, especially for folks my age and younger, so heavily reliant on having my Oz superannuation make up the bulk.
It’s not being added though, that’s the issue. (and it lost 6% this year). I genuinely don’t think I’ll be able to retire though, not in the conventional sense. I’d rather work til I drop and funnel everything LO’s direction.
Bloody hell ?!
What age will you work till ?
I’m pretty sure you don’t do a manual job ?!?
I don’t do a manual job but I will never stop working as long as I’m able. The joys of parental responsibility when you have them late in life.
We/I won’t be around for a lot of her life, not like most other kids have their parents around, so the least I can do is set her up as best I can.
I think you’re right but clearly it will be more challenging for younger age groups.
I’m 57 and aim to be mostly retired in the next 18 months - pension age changes might mean I need to take the odd contract to top up the income but I’ll probably do that anyway to avoid brain atrophy!
Being a freelance contractor, I’ve had periods of free time for the past 15 years and found that after about 3 months, it’s hard to find things that are mentally stimulating enough to keep the brain working fully. Basically, however much it annoys me at times, work is the only thing that is mentally challenging enough to stop me becoming a bit of an air cadet!
I’m hoping that retirement will work differently as I’ll be able to engage with something like learning a musical instrument knowing that I’ve got a good run at it … as opposed to now where I don’t know whether the next contract will be in 1 or 6 months and so don’t start.
I’ll look out for you busking at The Cross .
My next door neighbour, actually same house neighbour as we live in one house that got divided in two, was in the same line of work as me and she kept going part-time until aged 73. Says she only stopped work “because of the computers” :- she enjoyed the people. Think for me it might be the other way round…
She’s fab, in her 80s now and still rides around town on her bike and walks her spaniel across the fields twice every day.
So I’m gunning for 70s if poss. But increasingly part time in the later years probably.
Edit: my all time hero has to be David Attenborough. Still living the dream at , what, 95? 96?
Worst case I’ll have to slightly tweak my plans, possibly more wondering about the whole how will I cope with no life structure. Travelling is all well and good but it’s expensive and I can’t just swan off and leave the GF while she works
Few more years before it becomes reality though.
Or become one of those pro age groupers
I guess it’s because of the nature of my job, but I have a firm retirement age in mind, if I had stayed in the army or police long term I would have finished a few years ago.
With a good pension too.
My financial plan into retirement is “ unusual “but it’s working out so far.
If it falls flat I can always get a part time job, 8 years Pt now I’d never work full time again
I’d better do a Fruity & delete this as we’re not in Blackpool Toto.
I suppose that’s one bonus that we’ll mostly have skills that some employers will still want and age discrimination may be less of an issue in some industries these days.
Speak for yourself, I’ve got a fairly niche job & zero people skills
Busking for you then
My big problem will be in 9 months time when my pension If I took it then would be £200 per month less than my part time salary.
So in a messed up way I’m working for £ 50 a week! Or £2,50 an hour!
Obviously the gratuity shoot’s up as you “ don’t” take your pension pot.
I often wonder about people who need an income of “ at least 35 k “ on retirement ?!
They must have big bills still or big dreams
Maybe both !
Expensive, fast cars
The worst!
Mine will go the day I retire
Porsches and pensioners is a bit shit really ?!
No?
