Well I’m one of those who has no right to be here, being a mere slip of a lad aged 49.

However at work the other day I saw a guy who said ‘I feel terrible. Absolutely awful. I’m only 30 years old but I feel like I’m nearly bl@#dy 50’

The cheek! I sent him packing.

Yeah, it’s right up there with the person without kids telling you how ‘tired’ they are. Jog on with that. :point_right:

I voted ‘other’ because the alternative option might have been a bit close for comfort.

Might well be one for the existential thread but in the blink of a racing season’s eye I’m now closer to my next birthday than the last one, and only 2 years from the M55 age group :astonished:

Joking aside about my retirement I actually need to slow down the passage of time so if anyone has any suggestions I’m listening, maybe not HGH though :joy:

My 50th hardly happened because of lockdown not that it particularly bothered me. And I keep thinking of fruity’s book about 4000 weeks, based on that I’m already in the last third and it won’t be long before I need help wiping my arse :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Help me :joy:

Apologies, rather lost this thread in recent months so replying to comments some some while back.

That’s the law of supply and demand, nothing more. If a company needs the skills and they can’t get the right fit, then they have to offer more money … or train someone up … or ditch the old system for something more modern.
The short term problem is not being able to get someone on the cheap from Eastern Europe, it’s that more than anything else that has been driving wages down. Adjusting from that takes time, the supply side is fundamentally slower to react as it involves (for example) changing the balance of training courses, then the time taken for people to complete them and then time to build up experience.

A longer discussion can be had about productivity enhancement and investment but maybe save that for another day!

But with remote technology that is still an option if the business wants it enough for a lot of IT work?

A lot cheaper than replacing a legacy system that the business depends on.

Although I do generally agree with your comments.

Agreed - though IT development probably focusses more on resource from the far east / India in order to get 24 hour development.
