That must have been hard mate and I could sense what it meant to you. However, whilst not comparable, like being made redundant, once the decision made, your ‘job’ is to rebuild yourself and get the best outcome.
Money does not fix everything but it sure takes one stressor out of your life. Forget the language they used, focus on the outcome.
Looking forward to hearing all about ‘Mungo2 MkII’
As others have said, I couldn’t have done your job and to have done it for so long under such trying circumstances would test anyone’s limits. Thank you for what you’ve done in the Prison Service, It is much appreciated. I also really appreciate your interactions on here; Always positive and motivating, never judgmental. I really hope that you enjoy all that life has to offer over the coming years as you move on
@Mungo2 I wish you all the best for your future. The past few months have been so hard for you and I hope you can now look forward to finally having a life that brings you joy. After what you’ve been through, you deserve no less. I’m pleased you have your Doris to share life with, also pleased she gets to spend lots of time with the new calmer you. Take care and thank you for inspiring us with your amazing workouts and for always supporting others, even though you were suffering yourself.
Really pleased for you @Mungo2. You have had a tough time in a hard job that is very under valued on the whole. Time to.move forward and enjoy the next phase, maybe it will be Mungo3?
I am pretty sure that my peak atheltic performance was age 49. However, I am enjoying being one of the fastest / fittest over 50’s
I love triathlon, and am unlikely to give up the sport, however, I may race more for pleasure (worked out well in Wales) - However, I do have the sub 9hr niggling at me, I am just not sure whether I am ready for the 6 months serious training to do it.
I don’t quite feel that time is running out, however, I would love to get back into windsurfing more - every time I windsurf I realise just how much I love the sport.
I can’t believe that I have been in Switzerland for 6 years, and not done any serious kayaking
I don’t love pools, however, I do love swimming in the lake (slowly), I will probably continue to swim for as long as I live in Switzerland, however, UK pools and lakes don’t attract me, and I would rather windsurf on the sea.
I feel that sport is really important for mental health, especially was we age, kids leave home etc. I am not doing sport to try to stay young, however, I do sport to stay healthy and fit and be part of a social group of people. It dawned on my the other day, if I want to go out and meet up with people in the evening, I can just put a message on one of the many whatsapp groups I am in, and 90% of the time someone would be delighted to join
Pools are for training basically, I get little enjoyment unless I have a bit of focus and see my times slowly improving.
Lakes depend on where, the man made lakes that were quarries are a bit boring but the Lake District is better, I don’t mind our local river but nervous of water quality, a few friends got ill earlier in the week after swimming there, could be a coincidence though.
Lake Zurich was the nicest place I have ever swum open water (admittedly don’t have a huge experience) - water was crystal clear - went swimming with the family in the days after IMCH - all loved it
Worst open water swim - Beaver half - so silty couldn’t see my hand in front of my goggles
I’ve actually enjoyed 5 long swims in the last two weeks. No idea why I’m doing these to be honest…
The full distance one I had the pool to myself for most of it.
I’m loosing nothing swim wise in fact that 1:12 was pretty effortless apart from kicking off the wal a bit harder than normal
I like the solitude and your own little world bubble.
