Haha yeah, I’ve given up on PB’s and do races I want to with half an eye on age group times.
Still a few benchmarks for a decent day but they’ve changed. And I do still enjoy trail races.

In rowing terms I probably peaked at 31
I retired after my last Henley aged 33 because it was becoming more of a struggle to get into the boats that I wanted to row in. Physical decline exceeded technical improvements and I was lower down the squad ranking. I didn’t want to carry on and end up in the 2nd or 3rd boats
Typically, people got married and started having kids in their 30s and gave up because they could no longer devote every Saturday and Sunday morning and 4 week day evenings to training. Those who didn’t just dropped down through the squad
Set my 5km PB (so far) aged 49 years and 2 months. 17m59 on my watch, 18m06 on the Park Run website.
Felt there might be a little more left in the tank & hadn’t completely ruled out trying for one last hurrah. But it’s looking increasingly unlikely, as since turning 50 I keep breaking myself doing stupid stuff - mostly unrelated to Tri.
Most of my injuries in the last 5 years have come from gardening rather than sport🤣
My parents have lived in the same house that my dad built for them in the early 1960s. The living room carpet and most of the furniture has been in there since the 70s
It’s definitely a house of its time and it’s going to be a fecking nightmare to sell at some point in the future . Anyone viewing it will be doing the mental calculations of how much money they’re going to have to spend to bring it into the 21st century.
I think there’s probably more value there for a developer because even if you leave the existing house standing you could easily build a couple of houses in the back garden
I peaked at 45 (now 53) its been steadily down hill since , although the peri menopause is not helping at all it can f**k right off . I have had 18 months of a bunch of DNF’s . What has been helping though is strength exercises /functional training classes at the gym ( similar to hydrox) its been complementing my running . Even managed to push 60kg on the sledge last week and up to 9kg on the wall balls…small wins and all that
9 kg wall balls ?!?
Jesus
Did full sim this morning ( ladies sledge / farmers lunges etc.
Mens 100x 6kg wall balls.
Good result … ish.
9 kg wall balls, that is very impressive
I’m always scared I’m going to knock myself out to even attempt wall balls. Wow to 9kg wall balls you are mighty strong P00key
ah thanks - I have not been able to lift my arms up high since Wednesday i am sure it will get easier - I love the challenge though and having the confidence to push myself . the first time i did pull ups ( with bands) i couldn’t lift my arms up for a week
not even your small rifle?
On Pointless the other evening contestants were asked to name elements from the periodic table that didn’t have an “e” in their name.
When I left school in the 80’s there were 106 elements. A quick Google tells me that there are now 118.
Life just gets more unfair for us.
Meh, just like algebra and long division I’ve never used these either
I can however tell you all kinds of pointless crap going back decades which will do nothing to improve my life
Aren’t some of the “new” elements theoretical? They’ve worked out they must exist because of how the table works, but they’ve never actually been observed.
some of them have been synthesised including 118 (Oganesson) - but those beyond are still hypothetical
Is that not a rude word?
sadly not - named after this fella
Got an E in it too. Would have thought carbon’s the obvious choice for the discerning triathlete? Or perhaps titanium? Or I guess perhaps aluminium if on a budget
Magnesium (given we’re playing Pointless)?
Ah, yes, was hinking of onanism. Sorry, Yuri!
A very candid admission
Magnesium has an E in it, but that’s forgivable in the circumstances
