looking at 5 x 4 m ish , was thinking do my own base and erect myself my brother a lecy so would use him.
seen a few youtube vid on insulating ,looks fairly straight foward ,did you go for 44mm thickness walls
Nice! The long term goal if our house purchase goes through is to build something like this at the end of the Garden, to free up the study room I am planning to use internally.
I’d probably look to get something insulated to negate any concerns for damp, etc. Size wise, I’d probably be looking for something similarly “wide”, but shallower, so as not to take up too much depth of the Garden. 5-6m is about it’s width, so aim would be to run across the entire rear, and then have one side of it as a storage shed type area, with the remainder as a proper room.
In your picture are we looking down the 5.5m length, or the 4.5m length? Trying to judge how much practical space these things really offer!
Something like this is what we’re thinking. No idea how this stacks up in terms of general pricing competitiveness, but all I do know is it’s a bloody lot of money!
That looks well swanky!
Yeah, that’d be very much at the top end of the spectrum. The other half stumbled across them when searching, as they had this page: Garden Room for GB Triathlete
The intention is to have it at the end of the garden, replacing the existing shed whilst also offering some shed like storage, and aiming not to “consume” too much of the actual garden. It’s c16m deep by measuring on Google maps, including the patio, so 3-4m isn’t totally destroying its size.
rightmove pic
You can’t just tag Rightmove and dissolve all blame for the state of that grass
We don’t yet own it! I’m pitching for artificial!
That’s irrelevant… How low is that hoop??
I’ve just given the go-ahead today for a garden room, similar to this but a bit bigger and darker colour & black bi-folds/window.
7m x 4.8m with 7m x 4m decking.
2m x 4.8m will be my office and bike bits and the rest will be turbo, treadmill and a sofa, tv, beer fridge, maybe a pool table if it fits.
You need a knobbly tyre on the back, just to increase the sense of cave misery
our summerhouse/pain cave is 7m x 4m and was already in place when we bought the gaff - it was one of the key reasons we bought in fact as it adds so much extra.
we use it for our turbos, rowing machine, gym bench, 7 bikes, stores all sorts of sports kit (skiing, climbing, biking etc) and accessories. it’s also our laundry room - washer and tumble dryer in there plus extras like drying racks - plus beer fridge and overflow booze stores. it’s also our winter dog “management” area for when he’s wet and filthy so has various outdoor coats, wellies etc. on top of this we use it for indoor plants and keeping some outdoor ones overwintered.
frankly if you don’t organise things properly it becomes a mess and you will quickly fill what seems at first a big space
I’m currently negotiating a rowing machine with the wife. Concept2 are going for £700+ on eBay!!
So one of the thermometers got left in the turbo room earlier, so I’ve just got a log of Maryka’s turbo, she’s small, didn’t seem to be working very hard, but in the hour it added 1.5 degrees C and relative humidity increased from 51% to 59% which is even more water considering the temp rise (unchanged in the other two thermometers elsewhere in the house) this is with the door open on the room and the massive fan blowing out)
So I’d be pretty worried about damp in the environment all round, hurling that lot out and then closing it up insulated isn’t going to be great either for internal stuff as it’ll still cool a lot. Does anyone have a shed like arrangement for this - just running a dehumidifier enough?
yep - and there’s at least a 3 month waiting list for new ones on the C2 site (we’re on it since early December as we want to upgrade to a Model D so there’ll be a used Model C coming to market in late March). the new basic Model D is £860 - some new ones on ebay are going for over £1200 as people who have them are cashing in due to the wait list.
get yourself on the waiting list for a new one - no deposit needed and no obligation to buy when you get to the front of the list as C2 will be able to sell any they make!
I’ll try and get some other pics over the weekend to show room. Reasonable amount of space inside but ceiling height is not great so treadmill has to be quite carefully positioned so I don’t bang my head (I am 6’2" though).
In terms of cost, about £250 for the plastic base and £100 for the gravel. Can’t quite remember the exact cost of the cabin itself but it is one of these. Gamma Log Cabin | 44mm Log Cabins | Tiger Sheds I think it is the 18’ x 14’ which with them building it plus guttering and roof shingles was £5k 5years ago but now about £6.5k. £1k for the electrics and the 40m trench for the cable from the house. Finally I needed a bit of insulation for the roof (£300 maybe) and £200 for flooring plus some paint for the outside and other bits and bobs.
So all in roughly £7k but might be £8.5k nowadays.
cheers, I thought they were £1200+ new.
the D is £860, E is £1060 (same as D with a couple of extra bells and whistles which doesn’t add much really), and Dynamic is £1190 (avoid unless you’re a serious water rower)
so new price isn’t so bad compared to what 2nd hand prices are like on ebay as owners cash in. I’ve seen bids on used Model D’s go well over what a new one costs - lockdown bonkerness!
Have just been on the site. Certainly not clear how to get on the waiting list, I’ll email them to see. It just says ‘Not taking orders’.
Thanks for the heads up.

We have some steep terracing in our back garden. There is actually a lot of room on the top level, certainly enough for a big garden room as a few of our neighbours have proved. But the dream would be to build into the terracing and leave the top level as a garden space. Anybody any experience of this type of thing?
Amazing, thanks. On the list.
Just have to find the £££ and convince the wife now!
