If you can @stenard build in some buffer space as well. If I recall, you’re coming from a flat, and it’s amazing how quickly you’ll start absorbing ‘other stuff’ like lawnmower, strimmer, shears, other gardening stuff. Don’t want to assume on your personal side of your life, but if kids are in the pipeline at some point, in that property, then they’ll start creating more and more stuff.
When we moved into ours, just the two of us from rented flat, we bought what we thought was a big shed (pure shed, not a training room etc). Fast forward 5 years and it’s overflowing with stuff. We don’t have a garage, so it’s our single space for ‘stuff’. Planning on buying a big tent and probs roofbox this year. Genuinely no idea where its going to go. Esp if I still want a scrap of space for my turbo, that I have to shuffle to the side after every use, move the fan out the way etc.
Apols if that appears preachy/presumptive. Not my intention.
Yeah, definitely. That’s part of the reason for the outbuilding longer term. It’d be nice to have the house as a house. I imagine we will spread, but going from a 1 bed flat (and to be fair having some furniture from the other halves own tiny 1 bed flat, altho she wasn’t living there for nearly a year) to a 4 bedroom house will mean it’s going to feel absolutely huge!
But storage is something I was to generate. That’s partly the reason for ideally getting an outbuilding that provides some she’d like area. Although part of the reason for wanting decent artificial grass is both lack of maintenance, and negating the need for things like lawnmowers!
Yeah, don’t do it. Hire a gardener for all the chores, save buying all that cheap kit that takes up acres and breaks regularly. Just buy a decent border fork and spade, secateurs and hose, outsource the rest.
I’ve got a fucking armoury of gardening kit that could’ve paid a weekly pro for years, and left me time for the fun gardening.
depends on the floor area in relation to the house and roof height (max is usually 2.5m) and a few other restrictions (not used for sleeping kind of thing) - often allowed under permitted development rights - check with your local council. otherwise you need PP.
