The Pain Cave & Shed Awards

That’s what two of my mates said after their wives got pregnant for the 3rd time, just as youngest was about to start school and wife would have been expected to go back to work

been having a clear out of the summerhouse before the floor gets re-laid in a couple of weeks and I found 6 road bike Clugs and 1 MTB Clug. I thought I’d already got rid of them but clearly not!

if anyone’s interested in having these, PM me and I’ll post on - a beer token at some time will suffice.

After my updates on the Recent Purchases and DIY Numptiness threads…

My Summerhouse now doubles as a Turbo and Weights room. :sunglasses:
(With 5 pairs of dumbbells not in the photo / in front of the bike.)

Note:
I can’t remember the last time I could see this much of the floor.

Especially, when it wasn’t that long ago that the inside of the Summerhouse looked like this. :astonished:

Cheers, Paul.

I need to start considering a reorganisation in the garage. Just replaced our old 32" TV, so that’s sat idle now. I might try and get that up & running for Zwift; running off the laptop…

Is there an Android Box I can put Zwift on? I have Ethernet in the garage. Also have an old MBox, but I think that’s too old, and I’d need to find the power cable!

Wait a minute!

I’m positive that you have stated on many a thread how you’ve got an ancient TV that’s working fine and is in NO need for replacement. Now i’m too lazy to trawl back and find the quotes, but you’ve changed maaaan.

(what did you get - why’s it not on the boast about … thread?! )

Correct. I was outvoted in the end. I will post, just for you, on the boast thread…

I don’t think natively, there may be hacks available. BUT… Apple TV. There is a new one just been launched so should be a few bargains available for older models. Has an ethernet port, 2x available BLE channels, more if you link via the companion app.

Can I use an Android phone with the Apple Box? Internet suggests I can.

Yes, just needs to be on the same WiFi network. Although this may be an issue if you don’t have wifi in your garage. Can you currently get the companion app to work with your laptop?

Kind of  Laptop wired to Ethernet in the garage, and I’m in the house on my mob (wifi) then yes they’re the same network…but in the garage no, as I’m on 4G with the mobile

I just don’t want to be buying shed loads more stuff, so this would involve replacing my LAN powerline connectors as well as Apple TV. I’ve already forked out for a new TV and Nintendo Switch this month!

What are you currently running Zwift on? And what (without buying anything new) would be your preferred set up in terms of devices being used. I think you have a LAN powerline into which you plug the laptop. Do you want to use Zwift on the laptop and watch (smart) TV on the TV and have Android for controlling Zwift? Or something else?

At the moment, laptop on LAN. Realistically atm, it would have ti be laptop>HDMI>TV. I was wonderign if there was a way I could just reduce clutter and need to use an ageing laptop, perched on something.

No need to replace the powerline, just stick a travel router on the end, a travel router is well worth owning (add VPN or at least advert blocking to the hotel network and share it so you and your kids can play on their switch/other devices whilst hanging out in the hotel sharing the paid wifi) should be doable for around 20 quid.

I suppose there are a few different options depending on exactly what you want.

You could use your laptop as a WiFi hotspot if you have it plugged in to Ethernet from the powerline. Then you can at least have WiFi in the garage on the same network for each device. You could then connect the TV to WiFi for watching and use the laptop for Zwift and then use your phone for Zwift Companion

You could also buy an HDMI lead to connect your Android phone directly to the TV for about £5 . This assumes you can run Zwift on your phone suitably. Most phones don’t have ANT+ installed (although Samsung do) but Bluetooth should work.

WiFi no-go on TV due to age. I will investigate @JibberJim 's suggestion.
