The GL AR units are good, just run Open WRT, the 150 is probably fine for a couple of devices, looks like just over 20 quid on amazon at the moment.
@JibberJim just snagged a GL-AR ‘slate’ BNIB on eBay for £33.00 with my sniping app £60 online.
Rearranged my office a bit for use of the turbo. Now with a nice new mat and fan plus screens I can see whilst in TT position.
A fellow E-80 user. Top man!
you’ve even got a posh little bottle shelf
Yes. That’s a nice little touch there
Tempted to give Phil a call tho… see if he can see the £33 difference too!
As the resident photo zoomer, I am deffo calling Phil!
More importantly, did he go with Men in Black?!
Ha, I’ve not actually changed any of the numbers on the whiteboard for years. And I suspect many of these are obsolete. Phil is from a previous job. See the difference was my cleaner from about 5 years ago
The bottle shelf is a spice rack from Ikea. We use them in loads of places around the house as small bookshelves, tablet stands etc. Good on the turbo for holding remote controls, phones etc
Hi all. Looking for a bit of inspiration.
The pics below are of my current attic room, where the turbo lives along with a lot of other junk. It’s a big space on the top floor of our house, which really could be better used. Roughly 6m X 8m.
I’m wanting to turn it into a proper pain cave but don’t really know where to start.
Anyone got experience of a treadmill in an upstairs room- will we bring the ceiling down in the bedroom below? Put it all straight on the existing bare wood floorboards, or lay some sort of 2nd floor on top for sound/vibration/comfort?
Or should I just join the gym instead and continue to store junk in this room?
Thanks for any inspiration or links etc
Wowsers… thats like pro pain cave space. Can see why you’re an established Cat A
Haha
I feel it could be a great space but keeping looking at it and not really knowing where to start
It’s uninsulated and pretty parky in winter but I guess that ok for a pain cave
What a great space! That’s bigger than our house!!!
haha - that’s what i was going to say!
Plenty of room for a sauna in there and a hot tub! (they’re not heavy, right?! )
I don’t know how noisy a treadmill is from underneath - mine is quite noisy and I have the TV turned up pretty high to be able to hear it. It is also really heavy - maybe 140kg / 22 stone so it would be a challenge getting it up the stairs and it may well be a problem for the floor / ceiling. I don’t have experience of it upstairs but you should definitely get some advice before risking it.
I find it really useful to have both a treadmill and turbo. For me, the convenience of being able to train in any weather and still being about in the house if required is really useful. Joining a gym seems a bit pointless if you have to travel to get there.
That reminds me of a story from many years ago about Imperial College’s sports centre. The college handed the design process over to the structural engineering department, which used it as a project for the students. Someone thought it would be a really cool idea to put the swimming pool on the top floor.
They’d started the building work when it dawned on someone that they hadn’t factored in the weight of the water in their design calculations .They had to quickly redesign the building with the pool in the basement
Ive got one of the Branx treadmills - thats coming in at 78kg. Currently on duramat flooring in the garage and its near silent. Someone in the garage on it you can barely hear it in the house (and garage is connected).
That looks like a great value for money treadmill. If mine breaks I’ll definitely bear this in mind
I needed a foldable (well I THOUGHT I did… its never been folded up!!)… looked around at quite a few and contacted a few companies.
Branx were recommended by a running friend and I contacted them also - their customer service was EXCELLENT! Came back to me answering all my questions.
They further went up in my opinion when we had a problem with the belt slipping. Contacted them and an engineer came back to me, talked me through what to do whilst I was on the phone - explained what and why was happening. Then told me to save his number and give him a call if any other issues!
Not used it loads, wifes been on it a fair bit - cant really fault it.
