Ah, cool. I’ll be wearing my Clapham chasers vest.
The time for getting on buses
I’m staying with a friend who lives outside of Boston, broadly in the right direction for the start. I hadn’t realised bag drop was at the finish!

I’ve not checked the times yet .
We are staying in Quincy which is a ride on the ‘T’ to get to the pick up area. I spoke to a local who said it should be fine, but need to sort out the details.
ETA, probably wearing a Cirencester AC vest.
It’s actually bloody madness. Wave 1 bus loading is at 6:45 for a 10am start.
I’ve just got to Houston after a long trip!
That’s about it, but depending on who you fly with you can probably upload the documents before for them to check.
There was also a paper atteststion form I had to do, they gave me it at the UK airport and I handed it in before boarding to the US. I was slightly confused as I thought that was it when uploading the documents.
I used medicspot for the LFT which was done via zoom. Think it was £12🤔 form came back in about 20 minutes.
I’ve pre-booked the train from NY on the Saturday.
Haven’t seen my start or corral yet.
Edit: yes medicspot for the test.
Good to hear you made it safely. And the bike?! (or are you hiring with it being such a multistop trip?)
We’re going to have hours to kill waiting around for the buses, the bus trip itself, and after we get dropped off, so would be up for tritalkers meeting up if any of you are kern. Especially as I’ll have zero entertainment from that point due to having to hand in my phone etc at baggage. I’m actually contemplating trying to buy a cheapo mp3 player. It’s not environmentally friendly at all, but with 3-4hrs to kill from the point of bag drop, that’s a long time!
Visualisation and meditation young Stenard.
Yes, renting a TT bike so I didn’t have to bring mine.
Has your Garmin got music on it? You could put your earbuds in a shorts pocket if we can’t run in them?
I’m more concerned about being cold, got a few things to keep warm.
Where have you seen the start time and bus pickup? I knew it was early but not sure how early. I can see my number?
I’d be alright to meet-up if we can arrange something? Might depend on start waves though?
Back to the 70.3, had bad sinuses all week and I think they’re getting worse regular Sudafed. It usually clears after about 4 days but this feels like it’s just getting started.
More for the rant thread but it’s frustrating after all the organising and barely my first serious triathlon since Nice 19!
I’d even done some token training
I’ll see how the next few days go but as it is only my eyes and nose I can probably take it steady and see how the swim and bike goes.
Is it this weekend or next Jeff?
This weekend, Sunday.
Ah sweet, some good app following this weekend then!
You picking the bike up today?
Yeah, probably makes sense to sandbag before the race with someone I vaguely know
Hope the sinuses improve…will be tracking
No, tomorrow, I think they’re set up next to transition and I just need to take pedals and shoes, but would like a quick spin on it if I get chance.
Need to register as well, I’m still in Houston tonight and heading there in the morning. About an hour drive I think.
Jeff out of the swim in 39:45, looks about in line with expectations, so sinuses must have cleared up…onwards and upwards .
ETA…should have read the 2022 races thread first
I can’t train yet, but I’m all inspired by the Sub7Sub8 activity so instead I can talk and think about it a lot
So…how would you put together a sub 5 70.3 training plan assuming you’re in 5:30 shape?
Exactly the same, just 10% quicker
What are strengths and weaknesses? Seem to recall you’d do a good swim on not a lot of training?
Need to get the run under 1:45, so plenty of running at 12/23kph
23 would be a sight to see.
Bloody fat fingers
I think I could do it with slight improvements on swim and bike and a 1:50 run. Or put another way, I don’t think I can run 1:45 in a tri. I can run 1:50 stand-alone but not in a 70.3.
With two Olympics last year at 2:27 and 2:26 I think 5:20 is achievable, sub 5 is definitely stretch but I don’t care how long it takes. Unlikely to be 2022 for sure.
Bike training I’m confident with Traineroad but if you’re aiming for a specific time rather than ‘the best you can do’ (which I realise may not be optimal).
It would be nice to have a set metered swim/run plan and like the bike JFDI.
With my new job Im already going into debt so buying answers is out of the question. I feel like Im stealing food from my children simply by having a swim membership.
