Ha, nowhere near the overall course record, he’s a pro rider in his mid 20’s!
I was certainly fannying about for about 20 odd metres hardly moving I’d had mud on my cleats from a toilet break near a hedge a week or so ago!

Weather forecast now showing light rain for the 50 tomorrow, I’ll probably head over, if it’s looking dangerous I’ll bail and go for a run or walk somewhere.
50 tomorrow morning - bricking it a bit now, haven’t ridden much over an hour since March, and just found out it’s a 5.5 mile ride to the start from HQ (and 3 miles back to HQ at the end but that’s OK).
Going to have to treat it like a long build ride and save something for the back end hills, at those should provide some opportunity to move around.
Will be taking 20 tonnes of vaseline.
Good luck for yours @jeffb - hope the weather is kind for you! Not to rub it in but looking perfect down on the South coast - 13 degrees so shouldn’t get too hot plus a light wind
Bricking it for my 12 hour tomorrow. Weather forecast ok, moderate breeze but dry. Westerly, if it could slide around to South Westerly even better…
Hell of a first open after lockdown; normally I’ve got a couple of 100s and some 50s in the bank by now, so expecting pain.
Joe Skipper has stated an intention to put the 12 hour comp record on the shelf; so could be fun. Hope he’s read the course notes as it’s changed from last year and he blew that attempt…
Targets:
Threshold: 250mls
Target: 255mls
Stretch: 260mls.
Think my PB 262 is out of reach given I’ve barely ridden the TT this year and haven’t bothered to turbo in TT position during lockdown.
3:30 am alarm set, bed soon
Thanks @PhilleusPhogg, good luck yourself as well.
I’ve only done one ride over 80K I think since Nice last year but I’ve done a few around 2 hours or just over, I’m banking on the harder sessions on Zwift to have helped as well. I think temperature is forecast for 16ish, probably a bit cool for me.
Good luck as well @TROSaracen that’s going to be an re-introduction to racing. I’d seen about Skipper, he’s streaming from his phone as well, until it goes flat.
I bailed, big shower after 10k and was getting too dangerous for me, had to go another couple of miles before I could turn back as well. Heavy showers since.
No regrets but disappointed after a few good days and no wind either.
I’ll go for a run instead.
@PhilleusPhogg did you miss your start?
How did you know?! Yeah - lost track of time getting ready somehow, then got a bit lost heading to the start so ended up going off as #20 instead of #13 - hopefully they can sort that out (I wasn’t the only one who got caught out/lost getting to the start) but no big deal, I managed to get the ride in which was the main thing.
Did 2:14:30 ish which I’m pretty happy with, rode conservatively early on, drifted a bit in the middle on the A24 as I thought that bit would be faster than it actually was, but got a second wind at the 2nd to last turn knowing there was only 40odd minutes left and legs were still working. Needed a quick wee stop halfway despite only having a tea, some sips of squash and cereal beforehand which was a PITA but I felt sooooo much better after stopping so it was a nice distraction.
Had to leave the ego behind as my minute man came past after about 2 miles and some pretty high numbers thereafter, you can blag 10s off not much volume but holding decent power for 2+ hours requires some proper work eh?!
The other weird thing was that somehow my velotoze ripped and got wrapped around the pedal spindle so had to stop and rip the whole thing off as it felt a bit unsafe not being able to unclip on that side. Those things are soooo fragile.
That’s a bit of bad luck, but you can only play the cards you’re dealt I guess, no point taking any risks just for the sake of it!
Club mate shared a pic of the finish sheet
Well done, nice ride. Interesting course isn’t it.
Joe Skipper has just done 162 miles in the first six hours of the Breckland 12 (reported on TTF)
Not sure how TRO Saracen is getting on
Ha good stalking! Yeah on reflection it’s a cracking course, what it lacks in quick times is more than made up by the variety; a few lumps, some fast DC bits and most importantly not a single bit of road ridden more than once! Felt like a right little adventure. Road surfaces not too bad either.
264.5 ish for me. Happy with that, being undercooked and having to rejig my nutrition strategy when bottle cage failed and thus Garmin says about 9 mins were stationary.
Also raced a half marathon Saturday…
PB and club record, so all good.
Nice!
Awesome. Well done!!
326 miles and 12 hour comp record for Skipper?
Great ride well done
Superb effort
Nowt like going into it fresh - half marathon indeed
