I’ll bet they do go on IMJ/IMJUK for a laugh sometimes, just to see what fools we are
…Could some of the trolls be…nah!

Back in the day TT had a good smattering of pro regulars. Even had Brett Sutton post once defending Chrissies right to choose him as a coach (she got a lot of crap about it)
Oi, Yorkshire tea is where it’s at
Couldn’t see Alistair at the pool this morning. Jess Learmonth was there in her wettie. Looked like Lucy Hall was there amongst others
I know her boyfriend and brother funny story in Luffbra, first day and we were all standing up presenting ourselves (we had pre prepared a talk about ourselves) and a guy stood up announced he is only the third best triathlete in his house even though he is a pro. It was Lucy’s brother. One guy thought he would be funny and called out, " Can you let me have her number" to which he said, you are sitting next to her boyfriend ask him for it".
Well I suppose you had to be there
Mark Buckingham was part if the group up here iirc? He still trains with the guys and girls I suspect.
Hah! Did you work with Ian Armiger at Loughborough?
@pacha do you train at John Charles? I wish I lived closer to a decent pool. Can’t complain really though at least pools are open now!
Bucko is still there, but coaching now and guiding a world champion blind paratri also. They are looking for a new Head Coach of WCP but unfortunately must have extensive elite experience so I think it’s already gone internally and they are just going through the motions.
Nah, I didn’t get to work there just courses. It’s very cliquey and virtually impossible to get a gig, and very poorly paid!, was 5k pa for a standard coach in the performance centre at Luffbra, obviously not full time but you are coaching most , if not every day and quite early for swim sessions. It’s why they are all young, ex pros or graddies that haven’t transitioned into the real world.
A tall(ish) chubby was taking the session today and Wednesday. I always found Jack Maitland alright for a quick chat. When the pool is set up as 50m the lane next to the elites was generally empty so I would usually get in it. Hence having a chat with JM.
@d.t I flip between my local LCC pool and John Charles, which is a short drive away. It is a nice pool and much easier to get a swim in as there’s not many wrinklies doing head up breaststroke.
Not sure, I know it’s changed a bit, especially with Alex moving to Luffbra. I think a few have moved from Leeds. To be fair the world class programme only ever moved to Leeds because AB refused to train at Luffbra. I guess the cycling could be better ooop norf but facilities wise be hard to beat the latter.
watched the run element of the men’s race live earlier
4th for Alex Yee and probably a Tokyo trip
Fantastic Swim, just the heat got to him on the run in the end but awesome performance and showed the armchair fans how good he really is. He is the only realistic male medallist but I think heat is going to play massive part now. I hadn’t appreciated how hot it could get there.
And not a good day out for Beth Potter - lapped on the bike so pulled out by the TOs. Sophie 6th and Non 7th is some consolation but no great shakes really as GB women’s squad is already settled.
I don’t know, suspect the armchair fans will not understand how a 27:xx 10k runner doesn’t win every time they reach T2 in the front pack. But true, he looks like our best (only) men’s medal hope. There were a lot of funny run performances though, Luis slow, Pearson from nowhere, you don’t know where these guys are in their training right now, if they have selection nailed they are probably not tapering for this.
Women’s race was interesting. Makes you wander if the 1 year delay could totally change the podium in Tokyo, youngsters suddenly coming to the front.
I believe he is still learning and building strength endurance also. People forget he is only 23, still quite inexperienced at Oly distance, and will not be at his endurance peak for a good few years yet. Running sub 30 off the bike is still a very quick race especially in that heat. Wondering how much work he actually needed to do on the bike also to bridge that 20 seconds. Didn’t really see if he got much help.
Just watched the footage from both races at Yokohama.
Blumenfalt (?sp) always amazes me, he looks like such a strong well built guy and yet runs as fast as, or faster than the whippets.
Maybe he’s a bit like Spencer Smith was in the 90s- just a real physical outlier?
Sorry if this is a spoiler - how do you do that thing where it’s hidden? - Edit: thanks @Doonhamer
Saw a message on FB from the WT Team Leader who was at the event - basically he is the guy who is in charge of all TOs across the World and works at WT HQ.
He was praising highly the organisers of the event and team of TOs for putting on a superb event under trying COVID regulations imposed by WT and the Japan govt.
He’s going to be at Leeds, so us TOs will need to up our game to match Yokohama…
