Loos like @tunster is steaming ahead but both are still trucking strong :+1:

Hope they’re both doing well. Looks like another nice day, but a bit cooler.

I’m assuming a midday cut off for 28hrs. It’s sunnier here than this time yesterday but the breeze is stronger.

Any recent tracking news FP?

Depending on the distance between the next CP and finish, could be tight for @p00key , she has an ETA of 10.56 there and I think cut off is midday?

@tunster has an ETA of 10.12 there.

Actually, scratch that, they started at 9.30, so that should be a 1.30pm cut off :+1:

Yeah that’s insane.

A chap, I forget his name, smashed the Paddy Buckley Round record the other day as well. Completely solo and unsupported, ins something crazy like 15 hrs.

Well done to @tunster and @p00key :clap:t4: :clap:t4:

Hi all thanks for following my race - it was very hot and a detour was in place . I did indeed run with @tunster for the first 15 miles but then dropped back . I struggled the last 20 miles - too hot , too grumpy . My friend paced me as I knew it would be close (28 hour cut off). Glad to get another ultra in the bag .

Well done @p00key , grumpy is always a companion at some point on these things.

I made the mistake of starting with @tunster once

Thanks for all the support - makes a difference when things get grim as they always do on these races (why do we do it??)

Full report to follow when I can stay awake for more than 5 mins….

So, brief race report.

This year - no being kept awake by partying w0 year olds the night before until 5am. No howling wind. No driving rain. No deep mud. No DNF at 70 miles thinking this is a stupid bloody way to spend a weekend.

Started with a good chat with @p00key outside registration - discussing lots of stuff but mainly our shared obsession of getting into Western States… one day

Decided to run together adopting an easy 10 min run, 2 min walk strategy - stuck together for first 3 hours then decided to run at our own paces

The day got quite warm and humid but managed to keep up the 10/2 for 10 hours or so but was glad to see Henley at mile 52 for the first sit down of the day. Was going to be in and out after 20 mins having changed my top (if nothing else for the safety of the other runners), getting some hot food, a cuppa (no hot water though as the generator was on the fritz :face_vomiting:). Also changed my shoes into Salomon trail shoes but decided after 10 steps out of the aid station that the narrower heel was going to give me awful grief so back into my ASICS road shoes it was (turned out to be a fine choice as the ground was pretty firm the whole route).

From Reading at mile 58.8 I just seemed to take longer and longer at the aid stations to get out of the chair and get going. I was really tired and low on cals despite my best efforts. Kept dragging myself out of the door though and trudging on.

As usual I absolutely detested the fields leading to Clifden Hampden as they just seemed to go on forever. By then far more walking than running, followed by the grim march to the finish.

I said when I started that I would be just happy with a finish this year - 26:18 was my worst time at the event in 5 finishes but I will take it.

As soon as I finished and got my buckle I had a Kip at the finish line waiting for @p00key to come through

The showers post event were so cold Vim Hoff would have winced but got me going again and then to the train station for the train back to Manchester - managed a few hours kip, picked up by daughter and got some recovery food on the way home

All said and done a pretty good weekend.

Great to meet up with @p00key - place in the Western States ballot secured for another year. :grinning:
