Everyone going well still on the Spine

Kim C now has a decent lead in the men’s. But 2,3 and 4 all in the same CP ready to head off in the light.

Lucy G has just under 3 hrs lead on Robyn the 2nd lady. Still a race on there if she gets lost or starts to suffer.

Laura SR (a local runner) is going well. Just outside the top 20 overall.

As I beat her on the NC race a few months ago without even trying I’m going to say that a top 20 spine finish therefore is basically a given. So I don’t need to bother entering now!

:joy:

I must admit to not have dot watched much this year. I’ve been watching the YT clips and reading comments. Did John Kelly cut some miles off or something?

Is Sam Skinner still in? His partner offered to be back up crew for me at Arc. I didn’t follow through with it. (just as well :joy: )

Apparently they put in a detour while the race was ongoing due to some flooding which he missed/didn’t know about

Seems to be a little controversy about whether he should or should not have had a time penalty as well

I think it was around one of the checkpoints being moved?

He got it reduced though from 26 mins to 13 didn’t he?

So leaving CP3 at Langdon there was/is a diversion for safety reasons. He didn’t take this so was deemed to have gained 13 mins advantage, which by the rules of the race is doubled; so incurred a 26 mins penalty. I believe that he queried this and it was reduced back to 13 mins.

The only reason for the reduction I guess is that he did not know about this diversion. From what Jan has said to me everyone leaving CP3 was reminded of the detour. At the time I think he was 2nd to leave so it seems unlikely that no-one spoke to him; maybe they didn’t

Perhaps will know more post race

I think the first thing I did this morning was to check the spine race - great to see Lucy Gossage take the female win - looks like John Kelly kept her company during the last stages on and off. Also great to see Kim Collinson take the male 1st on his 4th attempt - talk about resilience from them both. I did see him over the summer going up and down Skiddaw a few times too - nice chap.

My mate Dave has 100 miles to go at the 158 mark - looks like there is a group of about 7 of them together which should be good company

Is your mate Dave Brown on here?

Keep going Dave(s)

Nope - my mate Dave is Dave Clements - number 129

Currently at mile 178

I hope Dave (Brown) makes it. I’ve enjoyed these daily videos.

Just watching a Summer Spine film. Not tempting for me but I was curious as to the coast. £925! :scream:

I am feeling a bit tempted - for the summer version perhaps - might have to disappear down a Spine YouTube hole this weekend

Winter version? Nah - no thanks

There seems to be some kind of party going on at Bellingham

Dave has done well - he doesn’t have to be out before midnight - about 40 miles to go

Looking at the footage, especially in summer with the longer days, could you walk this whole thing and make cut off?

Yes, the summer version definitely appeals more.

I want to actually see the pennine way!
