Training - What Training?!

Heading into winter is the perfect time to focus on something like that IMO. You don’t feel like you’re missing out on other stuff.

Yeah FTP focus over the winter, good excuse to be doing 1 hour turbo sessions and not 3-4 hours in the miserable rain. For a Sept IM, you don’t want to be building the distance too early.

No, i have no plans to be sat on the turbo for more than 2 hours this winter. The 1 hr sessions are working fine for me at the moment in terms of family/life/work management and training stimulus. I’ll get my longer sessions in on the run, as they’re more enjoyable out with friends etc. Maybe the odd bike if i can be bothered to ride outside! haha.

I’m (trying to) focus on swimming for six weeks, I’m recovering anyway. I’ve switched down my running targets from 4-5h to 2-3h, and cycling from 5h+ to 3.5h. I’m reintroducing lifting.

Bike plan is only structured indoor, the TR General Build (Low Volume) which I’ve never used before so theres some variety across the systems there. I’m not sure if there is enough to push the FTP up there, but not too bothered yet. By the time I get to the end of the plan in mid December, swimming will be back to maintenance levels, lifting will be near it’s peak and also switch to maintenance…

I guess if my FTP isn’t above 260 at that stage it’ll push me towards more bike focus through January. If I’m not consistently running, it’ll push me to focus on run. :man_shrugging::joy:

2 hour static bike

Paced to watts not hr which was strange… ish.

195 for first 1 hour 45 mins
200+ for last 15 mins.

Hour pb this year is 732 cal ( av hr 164) so this is a jump up I guess.

Sore legs now, it’s coming.

Bit of traffic and poor etiquette but no wars.

Stats are a bit funny, it was either 2400 or 2500m, hopefully from the HR graph you can see I’m taking Hammerers advice to increase effort slowly over the set.

First sets I had to double up as 200s due to traffic, a load of random things going on, eventually got down to a few @1:40 but every time I relaxed it bumped up 5 or 10s.

Not too bad thanks. Think got a little run down last week. Hopefully back to normal in a day or two.

There’s a lot of flu about - wonder if it’s the weirdly warm weather. 15 today, but been very wet and damp last few weeks. Almost into November…
