Terrible week for me, cos work and family and mojo.
Couodve gone out today. Didn’t. Settled for yoga and a few bodyweight exercises. Better than nothing.
1 x easy zwift and 1 x TTT.
Will see if i can pin something better next week.

Not much from me either but had planned for some recovery and travelling etc.
Managed the TTT, steady parkrun yesterday and a 13K trail run today. Was thinking of an easy Zwift or swim but neither have happened and won’t now
Going to search for a bit more motivation next week when I stop feeling tired and eating anything I see!
100km running in 8 runs
two turbos, 500kj each, although might do another one in a bit.
very nice!
Sh*te week for me, missed a run and bike earlier in the week due to work and family stuff. Planned for a decent session on the turbo this morning, then youngest son got sick yesterday and I spent night sleeping on his floor just in case he blew chunks again. Not the freshest feeling today, so just did the first Zwift tour stage, started at the back, ended not much further forward. Tomorrow’s a new week.
Obviously I’ve been in no mood for training this week.
Managed some easy Zwifts in the evening, but even those had moments when I had to stop - Henry used to use the open window to get on the kitchen roof.
New GF lives in Scunthorpe and there’s a hill round the corner compared to none where I am.
Out this morning for 6 x 1 min reps and 4 x 30s reps.
Remembered how much I hate hills
HR even got up to 163
Hoping I can motivate myself out of bed this week before work
Pissing down all day, squeezed in a 2,5km jog after rain stopped.
50 min 450kj stage 3 of tour of makuri
Really interested by reference to kJ. I have never really thought of training in those terms, but have seen you do it a couple of times and it made me look . Are there advantages?
Guess I’m wondering if 30 minutes at 280W say, would give similar kJ numbers to 60 minutes at 140W. Intuitively I feel like the training effect of the more intense session would be higher, so what’s the benefit of considering kJ. Or is that not how it works?
For cycling, quite a lot of the evidence is that it’s the only thing well correlated with performance, 'cos all of the rest of it is just noise. I think for the turbo where you don’t have any real “nothing time” - it’s a very good metric, as you’re not getting the “background kj” mucking up the measure (ie where you’re notionally exercising, but the intensity is the same as when you’re walking around the house - ie you wouldn’t count as exercising) And you’re also, well I’m not anyway, getting any sort of contribution from your ATP-PCr system (you need to be rested essentially before you start the effort) which gives you watts without really driving your aerobic systems.
So it’s really what I ride to when turboing, but then you also have to remember, I actually can’t turbo really, the power I can put out on the turbo, is so completely different to outdoors it would be confusing for me to think about it in power terms. So simple kilojoules for me - as you say, it’s the same as AP * Time, so it’s not as if it’s really something different.
Oh, and this - that depends - partly of course there’s what 20w/hour that shouldn’t be counted as it’s zero effort, so it’s 30 * 260 vs 60 * 120, so that does show more - but then it depends what adaptations you’re driving - when you’re unfit (and I am for cycling, particularly turboing, but obviously have good central adaptations from the running) then you’ll be limited on how quickly your body can build, so any stressor is likely fine - only when you’re getting fit in some of your adaptations, is it worth trying to guide where the adaptations are coming from my targetting specific things.
Lunchtime strength:
Lifted some tin then fucked off
The guys are going running tonight at 7.30 but it’s bloody miserable out and since deferring Arc, my mojo has gone south. Meant to be running Wendover Woods 50 on Saturday, so I’ll mark tonight down as ‘strategic rest’
I prescribe muscle relaxant and protein consumption (beer and steak)
Wetter than an otters pocket on the commute this morning. Pissed it down on the way home too. Roads were also flooded so got wet from on top and below - double the fun
You speak great sense
5km at lunch.
1.5% incline.
1.5km at 11.5kph, 1km at 12.5kph x 2.
Managed to amass a good 16,000 steps too, somehow.
6km easy jog, 32.57 at 5.29 pace. Broke in some new Speedgoat 5s
