Yeah, when I was his age it was just a recovery session after a night on the Guinness ![]()

Thanks all!
I actually entered a race today! Ironman NZ, But won’t try and sandbag and pretend I’m doing an ironman on 2 weeks notice, definitely been planned a while ![]()
Will post up some thoughts/training progress next week, been a busy couple months out here but going well!
5km very easy family run. 29.30 at 5.52 pace
That was his second 99.3mile ride in as many weeks ![]()
He’s far too focussed on getting it done and the brick run done.
Lad needs a VB or five ![]()

Proper impressed with those brick runs
Still doesn’t take the garmin to the pool though ![]()
Proper swimmer innit.
Anyways, 6km 30min runch for me.

You need one long run ![]()
One quick run (21mins parkrun a few weeks back)
A few tempo runs (Due to my weight and long standing cold, most runs are at “tempo”)
And some fartleks (getting pulled around by the dogs counts, right?)
Got in the pool at lunchtime. 4*400 off 8 mins: 6m22, 6m18, 6m29, 6m42 (whoops). Was proper hungry, probably should have had lunch first. But it’s moving in the right direction🤞
That’s 16 swims in 16 days but if @Chriswim ever posts one of his pool swims I’ll probably give up and take up needlepoint.
Last min full distance races are always a bad idea!
Are you aware of cut off times ?!
( this a joke )
One hour static bike, up at 4 ! this morning, finished hospital shift at one straight to gym and got it done, more mentally challenging than physical for sure.
I now have even more respect for the early morning work out people.
Honestly, compared to some of your sessions, we’re all in awe of you!
That’s after messing about for several hours usually, bit of bed making, washing up the usual crap and 2-3 cups of coffee.
I thought of you and the early crew at 04:45 when I took over this morning, I love training and I guess it’s just getting used to it.
But I couldn’t have rowed 5 k at that time, not a chance.
I try and train smart rather than hard as I age, but I fail sometimes as we all do.
25km 65min gravel ride ![]()

Had a mint day at work, so treated myself to Swiss Hill ![]()

0h30 brick run - really enjoyed this easy paced run ![]()
Steak and random salad
2 Pints dark ale
I recognise that cobbled climb…

That looks like Duke Street to me ![]()
(With a funny camera angle)
Woodbrook Road is also good, but it has drainage channels, which aren’t easy to negotiate!
7Km x 5 on the treadmill this week, again all steady apart from a single solitary Km at tempo.
22km of trails in 2hr45, yes you read that right🤣 Discovered the East Mendip Way. Absolute quagmire, more sliding than anything else!
Climbing wall yesterday - 4hrs, which is unusually long, but had such a good training session. Felt so tired this morning but managed a 70mins hilly trail run - getting up the hills though was a real exercise in mental strength. Here’s a photo for you @jeffb, behind the trees is the hill where I started from, not so sunny today but temp was really warm +10 degrees.
