the bike to recover the car was 23.25 miles, 1700odd feet ascent, and pootled in 2h20m.
So just over 6 hours cardio today, that’s a few pints then and some shit food

Double training day.
Run first thing, tried to add a bit of pace.
7.2km. 29 minutes. 95m elevation.
Will swim later, probably c. 25-30 minutes.
were you in any fit state to work after that monster? I’d be no use to man nor beast
Fair play
Not judging anything after that.
Great start to a day.
You’ve earned a beer and banana
Only Friday but almost done for the week, off with the GF to Norfolk way until Wednesday. Got a parkrun planned for tomorrow and will hopefully get another run on Sunday. Taking the wetsuit in case there’s the chance to swim anywhere and also got the option of a pool. But no real chance of cycling so will stick to a morning run while she has a lie in!
I’d planned and was ready for an easy week but still felt a bit lethargic the last few days. Up to about 7:15 so far with about 3:45 on the bike, 3 swims totalling about 5K so a big swim week
Should get my running to around 40-45K if things pan out.
Off work all next week so aiming for a fairly big ride on Thursday and got an oly tri on Saturday for a tester.
Second swim of the year
I have additional studio space in Port Glasgow as part of the outer spaces programme - we essentially have free access to a large empty office space marked for demolition
So after doing a bit more to a cardboard phonebox, I slungshot across the Erskine Bridge and headed north to Loch Lomond for a 1600m OW swim
It has been an amazing evening. Doesn’t get dark now until about 10pm and the greenery is still really full and bright. A lot of young folk out camping, I think for the night on the shore where I was swimming- the midges were out in earnest though. So good luck to them. F’cking ell. I even got bitten while I was swimming. The tinny music was kicking off as I was leaving.
Given the cool spring and size and depth of Lock Lomond was that not absolutely chuffing freezing? Good work !
No it’s incredibly warm. The occasional moments I passed through a cold stream of water I was very grateful. May onwards it’s absolutely fine in a wetsuit. Further north it’s probably still baltic.
9 months of the year it’s just the grimmest shit you’d not wish on your worst enemy. But for maybe 3 months it is amazing. Light evenings, sun. Soon night won’t really be a thing.
And we have plenty of space to swim. Tbh though, into my sixth year of swimming outside - I’m pretty bored of the view of Ben Lomond
Back out for an early ride this morning. Legs said absolutely not though. It’s been a decent 8 days or so for me, and the body needs some recovery.
Bloody windy too, which made things tougher. Made us realise how spoilt we’ve been the last few weeks as well!
Eta
Looking at the segments, was actually very similar (some exactly the same) as last week’s ride. Just the legs felt horrid today.
Following in the footsteps of @Cobbie
(No breakfast stuff at home, so a quick Costa stop for sustinence!)
I was fine, legsstiff after sitting down for a bit and mid morning breakfast. Worked through lunch. Swim 1100m before 1.5h bike home yesterday evening to finish the day.
It is a pretty ideal location for someone of Frank’s standing.
I had coffee and cake there last weekend
Parkrun for me today.
Gives me 81km for the week and 11hrs30 with 1,330 vert.
That does include the 16km hike with LO but I’ll take 'em anyway I can get 'em these days.
1600m sea swim with the Tri group. Beach starts and out and back practice in big waves again… thinking of heading to a lake to get some decent metres in without being battered.
Feeling tired. Biggest week for me since Ironman Austria build back in 2015. Weight coming down and fitness up, 17 weeks until 70.3 Barca (That’s not Barca).
45 minute spin class.
Absolutely wiped. Been a long week.
10 year Marathon des Sables reunion for our Tent
Weekend running around the Long Mynd in Shropshire
Beautiful scenery, great weather, great mates and shocking hangover this morning
Taper time soon?
Hope so!
It’s no so bad actually. The recent warm spell has really helped. Avoiding the bigger lochs like Morlich and Ness helps as well.
