Training - What Training?!

Like the FPRO Ruth Purbrook

Ah, but she has 30h in her day

She works one day a week!

Seeing as we’re posting TP graphs - I find my cycling one amusing:

I’m only going from the article on her in S/T last year, after she won the AG race.

She’s on sabbatical currently. Was on the OA podcast this week. Had a bit of a shocker in her first pro race by all accounts.

I basically only follow Triathlon in the month running up to Kona; and here of course

5hr20 cycling so far this week, just from commuting alone.

Was planning on a proper ride this weekend but got a cold now so possibly will give it a miss.

Starting to get some fitness back. I was lucky with the lights but #smashed a sub 18min commute yesterday.

Failed on the 4th interval of a 5x5@110% last night, had to scale it back to 100%.
Ride into work this morning was very sedate!
NB. Did the same session last week using power figures from KK trainer and it didn’t feel too bad but now back on P2M seemed harder. Think KK is a little generous as P2M has proved accurate in the past.

Excuse my ignorance, but I assume this is 5 x 5mins at 110% FTP? what is rest interval?

For me this would be 5mins at 346W, wow sounds brutal

Yeah. Savage session.

Generally ten minute warm up, then 5 on 5 off then cool down.

Saw one of my club mates doing 360 watts for his intervals recently. Animal!

Podium?

I was doing 4mins rests at 50% FTP so that I can get 6 in an hour, but only doing @45mins at the moment.

8km treadmill. Flat at 5.25 pace

I probably couldn’t do it right now, but it doesn’t sound insurmountably brutal. One Trainerroad session that I used to do quite a lot (after building up to it) was Sonora.
That’s 2x7 @105%, 2x5 @108%, 3 @115% and 2 @121%. All separated by only 1 minute rest intervals.

5 @110% sounds hard, but with a 5 minute rest interval, it’s probably reasonable to expect to be able to go again.

Just flicking through, Trainerroad have a session that is 5x5 at 100-112%, with only 4 minute recoveries

Interested you say you couldn’t do it now, but could previously. If it’s all relative to your ftp, why is it harder now when your ftp is lower? Just curious.

I need to retest as sessions like this off the ftp I last tested at are starting to feel easy. But if I used my peak ftp from last year I’d not finish the 1st rep!

That 5 minute rest seems to go bloody quickly though!

Can’t speak for @stenard, but as long time TR user myself, I find there is a massive mental component to these harder above threshold sessions. TR, in their training plans have pretty good progression, stressing the various levels below, at and above ftp. When I was training hard for 25m TTs a few years ago, I was doing sessions that I could not do now, regularly going above 110% ftp. For example, I did a session a few night’s ago that had me at relatively extended periods at 90% ftp, but the 2 min sections at 105% ftp had me really struggling.

Let’s not talk about the scale though eh!
