What is all of this portal stuff???

Not really sure, I log in so randomly now but the last couple of times there have been extra routes that you ride through a portal to climb. The road is coloured depending on steepness and just goes up into the sky and back again.
They are route badges though.

Had a bit of a rest from sport last week and visited Munich for a few days. Munich was lovely as always, although we were on our feet for about 4-5hrs a day. Anyway, been back at it since Sunday. Today is the first day it’s finally a bit cooler, had 32C all week, which made Monday quite challenging…
Sun: 21km hike 509m vert
Mon: 40km hike 1062 m vert
Tues: rest
Wed: 18km run/hike 433m vert
Thurs: 18km run/hike 433 vert

Going climbing later today and will run again on Saturday so I get about 100km for the week. Really pleased with getting over 2000m vert for the week, or rather the 2000m worth of downhills - quads are finally getting stronger

Went for a swim. Mostly to see how my shoulder would be. It felt ok, a bit of discomfort but not enough to stop me swimming properly.

Mixed it up with some breaststroke so as not to over do it.

Have you clocked many swims on Strava? I gave an internal ā€œWoahā€ when I saw that.

I was kinda sulking this week as had dull hamstring ache all week. Not painful, just there. Stopped lower limb cardio for a while and still there.

Tue swim, 50 metre intervals total 1 mile. Shoulders not too happy, again, slight dull ache, maybe I need to drop the distance for a while.

Thu lost the will, and for my mental health and sanity ran up to the radar and back, about 50 minutes. Being out, running, hill running, up in the clag at 2400 feet… ahhhhhh, that’s better

Yesterday AM 2.5 x hill reps increasing gear for each one. About 1 hour 40 total - saw one of the resident short-eared owls which is always a bonus. Cycling in the clag is somewhat pesky as the damp gets onto eyeware, then you’re not sure whether it’s your eyesight, the damp on eyeware, or the clag that inhibits sight for further than 6 feet  Anyway, job done by 745 which was great. Fought off the body urge to scoff 6 x Pain au chocolat and instead ate a healthy breakfast. It was about 6 degrees and seemed to take me about 3 hours to warm up again. Autumn gear could be saying hello very soon

23km including a very leisurely 28.00 Parkrun.
Was meant to be more but had some drama.
Will type more when I’m home in another thread.

60 mile round trip for 3 minutes of climbing… to tick off no.5 on midlands climb (only 70 to go)
I honestly have no idea how the 8,9,10/10 are physically possible.

This hill was fine… Till very quickly it wasn’t. Double digit stuff I just don’t seem to be able to deal with.

What’s the screen grab from?

I don’t normally buy apps…but thought it might get me riding different places a bit more…
Was mentioned on forum previously

First swim for 2023 in the bag!
25 minutes. Nothing strenuous. Probably 400 metres tops. After a parkrun, which is my excuse for it being so short. Will try to progress.

That used to be on a road race circuit :joy:

You come down it on Staffs70.3 then do a stupid LH turn before the hill stops.

What are the other ones?
Winnats Pass?
Beeley Moor etc?

In the days before Strava, BikeRadar did a sportive from Castle Donington … we cycled out, rode the 100 mile sportive, rode home. It was like every hill in Derbyshire :joy:

Larkstone Lane, Ilam Moor, Longshaw Estate, Sir William Hill … it was bloody stupid! Much better to not know and just do it :joy:

Slept. 3 hours on the sofa last night. 9 hours in bed. 2 hours on the sofa this morning. And another hours snooze on the sofa just now.

If only they’d make it a competitive sport - I’d actually be good at something.

:joy:

Think this might be the first day of August it’s actually been calm windwise round here - 63k up through the hills for me today. A 40th tonight and a hangover and Chinese tomorrow.
